Humanitarian Aid is the main priority high now

On the humanitarian situation in Gaza

The #UN #OCHA Flash Reports are periodic updates that provide one of the most comprehensive assessments of the impact of hostilities in #Gaza. This report from Oct 21, gives insight into the primary and importantly, secondary impacts at a population level of the #blockade of water, food, medicines, electricity, fuel, mass population displacement, destruction of residential areas, infrastructure such as sanitation, roads, telecommunications and healthcare in Gaza. The situation is beyond dire and cannot persist. I cannot begin to imagine what the people of #Gaza are experiencing right now and pray for an end to the conflict. I cannot imagine how escalating the hostilities to a full ground offensive is going to solve a problem or increase security and stability in the region. I cannot imagine how anyone thinks an organization such as Hamas is located exclusively within the confines of the #Gaza perimeter wall and can somehow be eradicated through this offensive. I cannot imagine that hostilities will not spill over to the #WestBank where settler-related violence, targeting of hospitals and ambulances and military actions are already increasing and elsewhere. I cannot imagine how the surviving people of #Gaza will start to rebuild when this is all over. I am listing the Aid Agencies mentioned in the report that have always supported the refugee population of #Gaza, who have offered shelter to the now displaced and have been successful in getting life-saving aid into #Gaza so far. Five months of continuous bombing, inhumane blockade on humanitarian aid into #Gaza, forced displacement of over 1.7 million people, and attacks on healthcare facilities and staff continues to cause indescribable suffering and preventable deaths. People in Gaza are being deprived of essential items that make life possible, such as water, food and medical care. Doctors Without Borders teams continue to provide humanitarian and medical care in Gaza where possible, but it’s only a drop in the ocean in comparison to the people's needs. We reiterate our call for an immediate and sustained #ceasefirenow, urging Israeli authorities to lift the inhumane and unlawful siege, allowing humanitarian organisations to provide life-saving aid across Gaza safely and at a scale necessary to meet medical need. 🎦 Listen to Meinie Nicolai, Doctors Without Borders General Director. One month on, civilians in Gaza and Israel are being forced to endure tremendous suffering and loss. “Renewed hostilities in Israel and Gaza –unprecedented in scale and intensity– reached the one-month mark, and the human toll of the conflict is both staggering and heartbreaking. Thousands of people were killed and tens of thousands injured, many of them young children. In Israel, families of over 240 hostages have no news from their loved ones, enduring 31 days of terrible suffering. Over 200,000 Israelis remain displaced from their homes. In Gaza, close to 1.5 million people are displaced, and many of them have seen their homes and neighborhoods turned into rubble. As essential supplies and energy –crucial to operate hospitals, shelters, water facilities, and bakeries– are running out fast, people are desperately trying to find food, water, and shelter for their families. Aid entry remains both insufficient and unpredictable, further exacerbating a dire situation. As hostilities continue unabated and keep increasing in intensity, nowhere in Gaza is safe, and every day is a struggle to stay alive”. Each day, I'm filled with deep #humility as I serve during this unprecedented crisis, fully aware of the profound #suffering endured by the #people. Right from the start, my heart and soul have been earnestly engaged in this mission and working closely with our dedicated country team. Through our ICRC work, we've recently strengthened our team in #Gaza, including a remarkable surgical unit, and we've embarked on the #vital work of distributing medical supplies to #hospitals. Additionally, we've played a role in facilitating the release of #hostages, always upholding our unwavering commitment to #impartiality and #neutrality. We've persistently called for respecting International Humanitarian Law and protecting civilian lives. The challenges we confront are immense, and no words can truly convey the depth of the pain surrounding us. Today, a new low was reached when hundreds died in Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza. The hospital was fully operational with patients, those sheltering, many of whom were children and medical personal. Elsewhere the UNRWA reported that one of their schools near the al-Maghazi refugee camp was bombed, with at least 6 people killed. Calls for civilians to be protected are contradictory to statements made by EU leaders that Israel has the right to defend itself. The evidence shows that civilians in particular have been targeted ever since Israel's attack on Gaza began following Hamas's heinous atrocities committed in Israel. As Philippe Lazzarini, UN Relief and Works Agency commissioner-general and Martin Griffiths, co-ordinator at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs emergency relief write in their plea below, "What is taking place in Gaza may amount to collective punishment for the atrocities carried out by Hamas on October 7." Instead of clamping down on those who are concerned about humanitarian situation in Gaza, EU leaders need to do their utmost to broker an immediate ceasefire and restore access to basic services such as access to water, food and medical supplies in Gaza. 🛑 Rescue 4-Israeli Hostages Diminishes Ceasefire Prospects 🛑 Ceacefire Talks No Less Than Mirage to Continue The War 🛑 More War, Relentless Attacks and Cruel Massacres. Despite Biden’s urging, cease-fire deal shows no progress. The recent Israeli rescue operation of the four hostages that is widely celebrated in Israel may diminish prospects for U.S.-backed plan (https://lnkd.in/dBZcXKju) what regards the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza, supposed flood humanitarian aid, permanently stop the fighting and withdraw Israeli troops. The eight-month Israel-Gaza war is likely to continue as there is evidence that either has bought what he is selling. Neither Israel nor Hamas appear to have budged on their wide divergence over the proposed road map to permanently end the war in Gaza. Indeed, one can question the ongoing theatre of the so-called ceasefire negotiations as it seems that it is no less than a conver and a mirage for the continuation of the war indefinitely. This is until the far right extremist government with the PM Natanyahu complete their goals to occupy Gaza with subsequent annexation and full expansion of settlements? As is the case in the West Bank. So, the US, both the Republicans and the Democrats, is now inviting Natanyahu to meet the the US-Congress. On the contrary, Israel’s claim as ‘successful’ rescue of four hostages early Saturday may further complicate administration efforts, bolstering Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s insistence on a full military victory and release of remaining Hamas-held hostages before Israel’s guns are silenced. Such claim of success to free four hostages will certainly end by the killing and slaughter of thousands, or tens of thousands in additional massacres, to get the rest of hostages in Gaza. Many dozens, if not hundreds, of Palestinian civilians were killed during the rescue operation near a refugee camp in central Gaza, according to hospital reports. Israel reported that one Israeli soldier died from wounds incurred during the mission. There is little doubt among the mediators that the rescue operation will jolt the negotiations, but perhaps in a direction none of them want. Israel still insisting on continuation of the war, possibly full occupation of Gaza and the expansion of settlements. We shouldn’t be blind and thinks that the US is serious about ceasefire plans. So there are therefore, good reasons and solid grounds to take much precautions and act accordingly. Yet, we are still experiencing huge surge of global demonstrations and criticism of Israel’s cruel and aggressive genocide that triggered actions from ICJ, ICC and most recently the UN black listing of Israel (https://lnkd.in/d-5EtJYd) for abuses against children in armed conflict as thousands of Palestinian children have been killed in the Israeli military's continued assault on the Gaza Strip.

In Sudan, the escalating conflict has led to critical challenges for civilians cut off from essential aid. As highlighted by UNHCR, the situation demands urgent attention and action. Through a recent mission, we've seen firsthand the severe impacts in areas like Omdurman and Darfur, where people urgently need food, medical aid, and shelter. *Gaza news* 1. Egypt has allowed only 20 aid trucks to enter Gaza. First time in 2 weeks after it all started. Egypt borders with Gaza, and is blocking that border. They don't want Palestinians in Egypt. 2. Al Jazeera live coverage analysis confirms that the hospital explosion was caused by a malfunctioning rocket fired from Gaza by Islamic Jihad. And the reported amount of casualties has been inflated from the real 30-50 to 500-800 people, according to the photos of the place taken next day. 3. Hamas is preventing evacuation of 4 hospitals in northern Gaza, so that they can use them as a human shield. 4. Hamas Political Bureau member during the interview: We oppose just one thing – the existence of Israel. 5. 3,000 Palestinian children with heart defects were saved by open-heart surgery performed by Israeli doctors.
