Dr Saleemul Huq of International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) is one of the rare influential voices on climate change from the Global South. May his soul rest in peace and ideas he'd shaped continue to guide us. While I've sadly missed the chance to meet him in person, his passion and fight for vulnerable communities have inspired me. He is right! #asiapacific has tremendous power in climate action as a region highly affected by climate disasters. 90% of #floods worldwide are in South and Southeast Asia. 70% of global population at risk of #sealevelrise are from Asia. And we now have to worry about #heatwaves made 30x more likely due to #climatechange. Read his OpEd on 'What Asia Can Do to Fight Climate Change': https://lnkd.in/g4ArVgRc 💡 Speed is of essence to invest in #lossanddamage and #adaptation efforts. #leadershipmatters 💡 Move from project-based adaptation funding to a more #actionable model. 💡 Ramp up #capacitybuilding for adaptation to build next generation of climate champions in Asia. #lossanddamage #climateaction #asiapacific #climatejustice #cop28

Today’s climate change term at APRI is National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). Did you know that NAPs are vital blueprints for how countries intend to adapt to the changing climate and address the need for transformation? These plans outline strategies to reduce vulnerability to climate impacts and integrate adaptation into national policies and planning. Use the link below to find out how African countries are implementing their NAPS to fight climate change on our Climate Adaptation project page. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eNC4saWm NAP Global Network

This week on Forecasting the Middle East, we are joined by Maroun Kairouz, Director of MENA with World Economic Forum to discuss the reality of climate change in MENA as rising temperatures continue to make the world's hottest region more dangerous to local populations. While the Middle East faces serious challenges, the region has devoted tremendous resources to address the effects of climate change, emphasize clean energy sources, and mitigate the damage that has already occurred. But have these measures been enough? 🔊Listen now to hear Maroun and #FTME guest host, EGA Director of Climate Policy Andy Morimoto discuss what the Middle East has done to address climate change and what lies ahead for the region. https://lnkd.in/gSWUZD4F #middleeast #climatechange #middleeastclimateaction
