Dr Saleemul Huq of International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) is one of the rare influential voices on climate change from the Global South. May his soul rest in peace and ideas he'd shaped continue to guide us. While I've sadly missed the chance to meet him in person, his passion and fight for vulnerable communities have inspired me. He is right! #asiapacific has tremendous power in climate action as a region highly affected by climate disasters. 90% of #floods worldwide are in South and Southeast Asia. 70% of global population at risk of #sealevelrise are from Asia. Africa Climate Summit 2023 offers not only a chance for dialogue, but also collaboration between nations for implementation. Historically, implementation has been the hardest part in making the drastic changes needed to divert the increase in wildfires and floodings. Events such as the African Climate Summit allows for almost half (23) of the continents leaders to have face-to-face discussion, so that their people can truly work together for change. https://lnkd.in/eN95mCYa
