South Korean police are taking action against the rise of politically motivated deepfakes with the deployment of a new deepfake detection tool. Developed by the Korean National Police Agency the AI-powered program was trained on over 5 million pieces of data from Korean citizens and can determine the authenticity of videos in just 5-10 minutes with an 80% accuracy rate. This tool will be used to aid potential criminal investigations. Learn more about this cutting-edge technology in the fight against deepfakes here: https://lnkd.in/dXsRthz6 #digitalidentity #biometrics #deepfakes #fraudprevention

News Update UK Government Introduces Crackdown on ‘Deepfakes’ Creation The British government has announced stringent measures to combat the creation of sexually explicit ‘deepfakes,’ a form of synthetic media that combines or replaces existing images or videos with manipulated content, often used to create non-consensual and demeaning material. Under the new law, individuals producing sexually explicit deepfake images without consent will face criminal prosecution and an unlimited fine. Moreover, if these images are shared, the offenders could potentially face imprisonment. The legislation aims to address the growing prevalence of deepfake images, which are increasingly being circulated worldwide, causing distress and harm to victims. #ai #deepfakes #unitedkingdom https://lnkd.in/dsGRNtEa

The UK intelligence agencies are advocating for the government to establish a new category of data set that would not be subjected to the current level of judicial oversight as part of a review of the Investigatory Powers Act. This move aims to weaken data protection safeguards. It is worth noting that this proposal comes after careful consideration and could potentially have implications for privacy and civil liberties. https://lnkd.in/eUEqC4Nk Computerworld #TechNews #PrivacyMatters #PrivacyLaw

🌍 Today, with 11 CSOs, we have written to the EU Commission urging further scrutiny over its decision re-affirming Israel's data protection adequacy status - enabling unrestricted flow of data between Israel and the EU. Despite the presence of many red flags, in January of this year, the EC, after a review, concluded that Israel’s privacy and data protection standards align with those of the EU, reaching the "essentially equivalent" standard. We seek clarifications and explanations. In our letter we outline six critical legal considerations questioning the review of the European Commission of Israel's: current status of rule of law, privacy and data protection framework, provisions on national security and mass surveillance practices, onward transfers beyond its internationally recognised borders. Finally, we question the EC's review of "Israel's respect of international human rights norms and standards" (especially in light of the current accusations of genocide in Gaza).
Today, we joined European Digital Rights and nine civil society organisations in calling the European Commission to scrutinise and reconsider its re-confirmation of data transfer adequacy with Israel. This decision raises red flags, especially in light of the International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s ruling on a plausible genocide in Gaza. We call for more transparency on how Israel’s privacy and data protection standards align with those of the EU.
