Straight to the point. Sources won't respond well to AI. Deep dives into complex underworlds fail with AI. What it will do, is respond and interpret patterns that the savvy journalist can cherry-pick.

A global report on the use of AI in journalism provides useful insights into the pitfalls of embracing technologies developed in different settings to our own — and confirms the need to work smartly to develop those that contribute directly to the kind of African renaissance we want to see. AI, and generative AI in particular, may seem to carry more risks than most emerging tech, but that doesn’t mean we should shy away from their use.

AI Ethics, Data Privacy & Cybersecurity | General Counsel | Corporate Secretary & Board Advisor | Identifying & mitigating reputational, legal & financial risk for multinational technology companies
As newsrooms around the world have pivoted to cover the rapid advancements in generative #AI, reporters often face challenges in finding resources to help them understand and convey the complexities of AI to a non-technical audience. This can result in distorted coverage around AI’s real-world implications. In response, the Notre Dame-IBM Technology Ethics Lab is partnering with the Pulitzer Center to introduce the AI Spotlight Series. This new initiative is designed to equip journalists with the skills to approach AI coverage through an accountability lens – and empowering journalists to report on AI with depth and nuance. While similar initiatives have focused on the use and integration of AI tools in the newsroom, the AI Spotlight Series is a first-of-its-kind program aimed at enhancing the quality of AI coverage. Money💰 🤑💸 talks. Check your electricity bill first, for reality. AI has doubled the electricity bill of a C-level friend of mine 😥 😿 😞 . Is it worthwhile? Let's try this fact-check question of AI-IP: "Is there any today's data technology/solution you know, that can interpret and answer the following fundamental and realistic Chinese-English multilingual questions of BI?" With our intellectualproperty (IP), a copyrighted multilingual metadata, we can provide real time answers for policy/decision making as evidence. "Who, in the Ontario province of Canada, has new US patents granted on the nearest Tuesday, when the USPTO releases the newly granted US patents on a weekly basis?" "Who, in the "江蘇‘’ province of China, has new US patents granted on the nearest Tuesday, when the USPTO releases the newly granted US patents on a weekly basis?" Metadata is an enabler, whose purpose is to let us find the data we want. Without metadata, NO data can be found/retrieved, even by the most advanced technologies, like AI, NVIDIA chips, supercomputers, etc. https://lnkd.in/g-aJFnXR Our IP can also make your data service UNIQUE globally.

Every nation should strive to build local capacity. There are no two ways about it when it comes to AI. AI does not go for a Made-in-X quality tag, else you'll be sweeping the floor with a toothbrush "How the technology we use is made, and by whom it is made, matters. The nature by which technology is made ultimately influences its impact. And there are plenty of great local technologists doing great, considered development" https://lnkd.in/datWgQWA
