This week’s #AlumniThenAndNow, we are highlighting Nogosa Atekha a graduate from the Berkshire School’s class of 2021! Currently, Nogosa is an intern at William Blair! 💙What was DMSF’s impact on you? 💛 Receiving the DMSF scholarship changed my life in ways I can't even describe. The overall knowledge from experiencing an entirely different racial environment, and socioeconomic environment was extremely insightful. The opportunity to live on my own was beneficial, and the opportunity to play competitive sports in a prep league was also beneficial, as I am now an NCAA collegiate Track & Field athlete. The skills I learned in the summer bridge program for overall interaction with adults and sending emails are skills I still use to this day. The biggest benefit from the DMSF scholarship has been the alumni network with networking and connection opportunities. DMSF does a great job with putting alums in good networking environments, as Mr. Nick Cross provides us with webinars for internship opportunities at firms with strong DMSF representation. Finally, DMSF has a multitude of resources if needed in order to improve your overall health and happiness. 💙For you, what does it mean to be a Murphy Scholar? 💛Being a Murphy Scholar means to not only be a leader, but to be an academic weapon and to build good connections with those within and outside of your comfort zones. 💙What advice do you have for current Murphy Scholars? 💛 I would advise to connect with people outside of your comfort zone more. Networking and connections hold more weight than I had ever thought. Thanks for sharing and encouraging us to step out of our comfort zone, Nogosa! #35YearsOfMurphyScholars #AlumniThen&Now #HighSchoolScholarship #EducationAccess

What if you could get a taste of what it will be like before making a big decision? Here's what being a postgraduate at Caius could be.
Farradeh, Chloe and Junad have been living at Gonville & Caius College this summer during their six-week paid internships as part of the SHARE Summer Research Experience. SHARE is co-sponsored at Cambridge by the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) through its Doctoral Training Partnership and aims to provide opportunities for students who are undertaking undergraduate study around the UK to experience postgraduate studies. The students completed their research placements in July and August, providing them with real day-to-day experience of postgraduate research – plus the experience of living and socialising as a postgraduate student at Caius, with accommodation provided by the College. SHARE is designed to offer everyone who takes part tangible benefits in terms of confidence, skills and experience that will enhance both their CV and any future postgraduate applications. To learn more about the SHARE internships, visit the Cambridge ESRC DTP website (https://lnkd.in/esdP4_QV) or the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences website (https://lnkd.in/d-38RTa) Learn more about life as a postgraduate at Caius: https://lnkd.in/eiNNSZA6

Excited about your admitted student college tour? Here's how to make the most of it: 1. Come Prepared: Research the campus beforehand to ask informed questions during the tour and sign up for an admitted tour. 2. Talk with Students and eat a meal on campus: Chat with current students to gain insights into campus life. A great spot to do this is in the cafeteria on campus. 3. Attend Classes: If possible, sit in on a class to get a feel for the academic environment. 4. Explore Beyond the Tour: Take time to explore campus areas not covered in the tour, check out the town, and get a feel for what it would be like to be a student on and off campus. 5. Look into programs of interest: What types of opportunities would you be able to have on campus? Research experience, study abroad, internships… 6. Take Notes and pictures: Jot down your impressions and any questions that arise to help with your decision-making process later. Take pictures to remind you of the campus. Enjoy your tour, and if you need help narrowing down your options, please reach out to us! 📷: Oregon State University #CollegeTour #AdmittedStudents #FutureCollegeStudent #college #classof2024 #oregonstate

Throwback to my early work days! One surprising lesson I learned early in my career was the difference between academical knowledge and practical knowledge. Academical knowledge, acquired through formal education, encompasses theoretical concepts, principles, and facts, while practical knowledge, gained through hands-on experience, involves the application of these theories in real-world situations. Academical knowledge is often abstract and broadly applicable, taught in structured environments, and evaluated through exams and essays. In contrast, practical knowledge is specific, context-dependent, and assessed based on performance in real-world tasks, learned in dynamic settings like workplaces and through internships. Both types are complementary, with academic learning providing the foundational understanding that practical experience builds upon and adapts to real-life challenges.
