Six years to the end of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Goal 16 (#SDG16) - seeking to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable institutions at all levels - is severely off track. Yet peace, justice, inclusion and development are prerequisites to achieve all the other #SDGs. In the run up to the 10 July forum on ‘SDG16 as an enabler to the 2030 Agenda’, organized by International IDEA, with the Permanent Mission of Chile to the UN, the TAP Network: Transparency, Accountability & Participation for the 2030 Agenda, and UNDP, we look at what events impacted #SDG16 and #democracy around the world in the past 18 months. Our #Democracy Tracker found 400 of them. See the highlights: ⬇️ https://bit.ly/3VUxdyO

A great summary of the deliberations from The Charter Project Africa 's latest installment of its regional dialogues as convened by consortium member Democracy Works Foundation. It aimed to reflect on the roles played by Regional Economic Communities and normative frameworks in advancing democratic governance and electoral integrity in Africa. A worthwhile parting shot, "Democracy works only if we all play our part. Every vote cast, every knowledge that is shared, every dialogue that is heard and every effort made for inclusion and accountability, contributes to the resilience of democracy." #Democracy #Governance #Africa https://lnkd.in/dEf5gj69

🎯 In the Strategic Plan for 2023-2028 we reaffirm our commitment to promoting democratic values, inclusivity, and resilience and highlight the main methods of work. Since 2007, CRISP has been actively involved in transforming conflict-torn societies into spaces where people can thrive and fulfill their potential. We have been inspiring and inspired by the citizens who, despite challenging or even unbearable living and working conditions, distrust, corruption, and oppression, have chosen to make a positive impact within their communities and beyond. CRISP’s overarching goal in the Eastern Partnership is to actively contribute to the democratization process in the EaP countries, while strengthening the role of civil society in driving positive change. Our strategic objectives are threefold: 🔅Strengthening Alignment and Cooperation between the European Union and the Eastern Partnership 🔅Empowering Civil Society 🔅Fostering Resilience Our work in the EaP region is guided by a set of principles: 🌿Nothing about them without them 🌿Owning the outcomes and responsibility 🌿Strong partnerships for development 🌿Sustainable approach 🌿Intersectionality 🌿Condemning the Russian aggression and supporting democratic forces Learn more about our Strategic Plan here 👉🏼 https://t.ly/-stjU #ResilientCommunities #EasternPartnership #CivilSocietyStrength #Empowerment #PositiveChange #Democratization #StrongPartnerships #SustainableDevelopment #SupportingDemocracy #CRISPStrategicPlan

Empowering the next generation This year’s theme for the International Day of Democracy, “Empowering the next generation,” focuses on young people’s essential role in advancing democracy and ensuring that their voices are included in the decisions that have a profound impact on their world. Democracy contributes to peaceful & stable societies, and allows people to have a say in decisions affecting their lives. Indeed, regenerating democracy is at the heart of what we do at Debating Europe. Looking forward to meeting with the European Young Leaders on Friday to dive into this!
📣 At Friends of Europe, we believe it's time to regenerate democracy. ❓ What does that actually mean? 🤝 For us, that comes through building trust between citizens and policymakers, and improving civic literacy. 🏛️ It also means developing more effective models of governance and encouraging a more citizen-centred and multi-stakeholder ‘new localism’. ⚖️ As we work to build a Renewed Social Contract for Europe, we have launched our Democracy area of expertise with our citizens' unit Debating Europe to delve deeper into these topics. ➡️ frnds.eu/Democracy 📌 This Friday, we'll also be tapping into the collective intelligence of our EYL40 European Young Leaders to identify concrete ways to strengthen democracy. ➡️ frnds.eu/DemocracyHardWork #RenewedSocialContact #EYL40Brussels #EYL40

The conversation on nationhood continued on the Aubrey Masanga show on 702 yesterday. On Political Analysis, we look at an interesting opinion piece written by Dr Msingatha Sipuka, Chief of Staff at the African Union Development Agency - Nepad (AUDA-NEPAD), titled “Re-conceptualising South Africa’s idea of nationhood”. The article talks about South Africa’s nationhood and the challenges it has encountered, the present trajectory and how this have impacted South Africans. Has South African been able to define its nationhood? Would defining our nationhood assist us in understanding who we are and be able to encompass another nationality? Those are some but a few questions that’s the article raises. Dr Sipuka joins us this evening to unpack this very interesting discussion of nationhood. What is nationhood?
