International IDEA launches a new report that emphasises the need to integrate #environmentalprotection and #inclusivity in natural resource management. This report highlights that alternative development models are essential to challenge the dominant extractivist paradigm amid the #climatecrisis. The report is part of the unique series: the Women Constitution Makers’ Dialogue, the only platform for women constitution makers and peacebuilders to exchange their experiences and support inclusive and gender-sensitive constitution-building and peace processes. 🔑 Key findings 🔹 Inclusive frameworks that integrate conflict resolution, environmental protection, and inclusion of women must be developed and utilized in peace processes and subsequent constitution-making processes. 🔹 Adopting a contextual and differentiated approach to natural resource management is essential. 🔹 Environmental considerations should be integrated into broader economic, policy and legal frameworks. Maryruth Belsey-Priebe's new study examines if more women in government leads to better #climate & #security policies addressing #gender issues. Findings: ✅ Countries w/ more women MPs more likely to have gender-responsive climate plans ❌ But no clear link to substantively integrating gender-climate-security nexus While women's participation is crucial, rigorously applying gender lens may be more impactful than numbers alone. Diverse voices, especially women's, are vital for holistic solutions as #climatechange drives conflicts & disasters. #indopacific #governance #environmentalsecurity Daniel K. Women Parliamentarians’ Impact in Indo-Pacific Gender-Responsive and Climate-Compatible Security Policy Making A new study in the Journal of Indo-Pacific Affairs by author Maryruth Belsey-Priebe examines whether having more #women in national #parliaments increases the likelihood of adopting gender-responsive climate #strategies and climate-compatible #security policies. https://lnkd.in/e6sHwGzH The research analyzed countries' Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) on climate action and Women, Peace and Security National Action Plans to see if they incorporated #gender and #climatechange considerations. It compared this to data on women's parliamentary representation from the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Key Findings: * Countries with higher percentages of women MPs are more likely to have NDCs referencing gender and National Action Plans addressing climate change * However, qualitative analysis did not find a clear link between women's representation and substantively integrating the gender-climate-security nexus into policies * The #IndoPacific region continues to face major climate-security risks and gender inequalities, with most countries' policies failing to effectively connect these issues While women's participation in government is crucial for gender equality, the study concludes that rigorously applying a gender perspective may be more impactful than just increasing numbers alone. Overcoming entrenched patriarchal barriers and norms in policy making is essential. As climate change escalates #conflicts and #disasters, holistic policies centered on human security and equity are urgently needed. Integrating diverse voices, especially those of #women who face compounding climate-gender risks, will be vital for developing comprehensive solutions. Excited to share that our article on the impact of environmental pressure on board gender diversity has been accepted for publication in Business Strategy and the Environment! Marie Dutordoir, Frederiek Schoubben, Wouter Torsin and myself explore how firms with worse environmental performance are more likely to increase board gender diversity following heightened environmental pressure. This study, focusing on the EU Emission Trading System, reveals intriguing insights into the intersection of environmental regulation and corporate governance. Interested? An interesting read 💡 We need more women in environmental policy decision-making and implementation, including in leading roles! ♀ 🦆 🐞 🌿 Not only this helps reduce women poverty and violence... ...But it has a positive impact on the whole ecosystem! Studies show that countries with more women representatives adopt greener policies 💚 corporate with more women leaders implement more environment-friendly action while keeping profits 🌻 and women can also more effectively de-escalate conflict over land and other natural resources 🌳 Women's impact is important also on climate policy 🌞 and ocean protection 🌊 https://lnkd.in/gZkptsHe

Thanks to the Journal of Indo-Pacific Affairs for publishing my research on whether boosting the number of #women in national #parliaments increases the likelihood of adopting gender-responsive climate #strategies and climate-compatible #security policies. The results suggest that simply boosting the number of women in government doesn't guarantee meaningful consultation with women nor that a #genderperspective will be reflected in policies.

Bridging Climate Funding and the Rule of Law: A Pathway to Sustainable Development In the global effort to combat climate change, the intersection of climate funding and the rule of law presents a unique and crucial pathway towards sustainable development now that we have six years left to achieving Vision 2030. Climate change poses one of the most significant threats to global progress on sustainable development, affecting everything from poverty eradication to gender equality. The urgency of climate action is undeniable, with the need for significant financial resources to support mitigation and adaptation strategies in vulnerable regions becoming increasingly clear. The effectiveness of climate funding is intrinsically linked to the robustness of legal frameworks, is critical not just for environment sustainability but as a catalyst for achieving the broader SDGs. #MJ in Rule of Law for Development Loyola University Chicago School of Law Studies underscore the importance of integrating rule of law principles in every step of climate action planning and execution, from initial assessments and program design to ongoing monitoring and evaluation ensuring that environmental justice is served in the process. #climatechange #SustainableDevelopment #Rule of Law #ClimateFinance #environmentaljustice
