First publication 🎉 Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI)  ASTRA 2023 (17th Symposium on Advanced Space Technologies in Robotics and Automation) organised by European Space Agency - ESA For planetary robotics autonomous prospecting, robust, long-term navigation becomes crucial. The goal of the research project PerSim is to develop technology to address some of the challenges of active perception for resource identification and long-term navigation strategies in an integrated architecture.

This weeks #MarsMonday 🔴 features another experiment of our #simulateMars mission: SAMPLE, from the TEDUSAR - Field Robotics Team Graz University of Technology 🇦🇹, deployed a prototype system for the support of the AMADEE-24 exploration cascade to gradually improve the situation awareness about a planet. The system is based on semi-autonomous operations of the robot and records and displays the obtained measurements in real time on a geographical interface. 🤖 🌟 Outcome: The mission in Armenia presented an interesting opportunity to test the exploration concept in a realistic setting and during the integration into a complex planetary exploration. Moreover, the team was able to test an upgrade to the locomotion system, as the terrain proved to be challenging. It also showed that there is no substitute to testing in the field, there is always the possibility to understand the system better by its behaviour in unfamiliar scenarios.
