pdf Cognitive Reasoning for Compliant Robot Manipulation Daniel Sebastian Leidner digsell https://lnkd.in/eTqHWp6W In order to achieve human-like performance, this book covers the four steps of reasoning a robot must provide in the concept of intelligent physical compliance: to represent, plan, execute, and interpret compliant manipulation tasks. A classification of manipulation tasks is conducted to identify the central research questions of the addressed topic. It is investigated how symbolic task descriptions can be translated into meaningful robot commands.Among others, the developed concept is applied in an actual space robotics mission, in which an astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS) commands the humanoid robot Rollin’ Justin to maintain a Martian solar panel farm … Read More » https://lnkd.in/e5NG-vib

Have you read about CFMS’s Collaborative Space Data Centre (CoSDaC) in this month’s The Engineer – focus on Space and the South West ? (pg26 and 35) CFMS has a long and successful history of being trusted by Rolls-Royce, Airbus and others to provide data-centre powered research for commercial research applications where specialist digital expertise and protection of data and IP are critical. We are now extending that capability into the #space sector focusing on enabling technologies such as #Robotics, #Autonomy and #AI to meet that industry's rapidly growing commercial research needs. CoSDaC will provide a critical regional asset with national and international reach which complements other capabilities in the region. As Dr. Paul Bate UK Space Agency CEO commented: “From AI to robotics, the new Collaborative Space Data Centre pilot will support the next generation of space engineering, using the recognised expertise of @CFMS to further strengthen the Space West cluster. This will create new opportunities for regional growth and foster strategic global collaborations that could help develop new solutions to some of today’s biggest challenges.” “It is a brilliant demonstration of the potential of our thriving space sector across the UK to develop innovative infrastructure that helps us deliver increasingly ambitious missions and capabilities. ”

Space travel is filled with danger and daring as humanity explores new frontiers. As we reach deeper into space, we need technology to amplify the off-world capabilities of our interstellar explorers. There's still time to vote for our SXSW #PanelPicker session, ‘How Humanoid Robots Expand Our Potential In Space & On Earth!’ Cast your vote to help us get our very own Jeffrey Cardenas on stage alongside NASA’s Shaun Azimi so the duo can discuss how humanoid robots are being designed to work with human astronauts to relieve them of dangerous tasks and expand mission possibilities. 🚀 https://lnkd.in/gnVf5Unp

This weeks #MarsMonday 🔴 features another experiment of our #simulateMars mission: SAMPLE, from the TEDUSAR - Field Robotics Team Graz University of Technology 🇦🇹, deployed a prototype system for the support of the AMADEE-24 exploration cascade to gradually improve the situation awareness about a planet. The system is based on semi-autonomous operations of the robot and records and displays the obtained measurements in real time on a geographical interface. 🤖 🌟 Outcome: The mission in Armenia presented an interesting opportunity to test the exploration concept in a realistic setting and during the integration into a complex planetary exploration. Moreover, the team was able to test an upgrade to the locomotion system, as the terrain proved to be challenging. It also showed that there is no substitute to testing in the field, there is always the possibility to understand the system better by its behaviour in unfamiliar scenarios.
