Sales - I heard this quote “if your a sales guy you can sale any item, from cars to vacuums” The first thing that came to mind was dilution. If you don’t not know the product inside and out. You won’t be able to sell. Step #1 Study the product! In glass and glazing we are always learning there is so much to know regarding glass types, hardware, and aluminum systems. If you don’t know the answer say I don’t know but I will get back to you. Don’t tell people what they want to hear to close the deal. Manage client expectations provide realistic lead times. Everyone is in sales. Own a company? Definitely in sales. Designer? Selling your designs and creative direction. HR? Selling how much you care for the employees, company, what your company has to offer. Better employees make better products and thus, more sales. Are you a teacher? Sales on how well you are teaching those in your class and how much you understand the value you are creating. Janitor? Sell the crap out of how well you value the physical building and the value the product the company makes by keeping the grounds beautiful for all that visit (especially bathrooms). We’re all in sales in some way. Sell what you value. 🤘

A roofing sales reps job is to sell. Plain and simple. They are not administrative people. They are not material runners. They are not supplementors. They are not quality control specialists. Their personal income is based on what they sell. Sure, there are some parts to that which are part of that process like... Signing agreements Meeting adjusters Signing contracts Collecting checks Servicing the client during a build And, maybe a few other things, depending on the model. Having them do things outside of that (like what I mentioned above) means they should be paid for work they are doing that does NOT have to do with sales. From my experience... Sales reps are not super organized people so its a mistake to have them even do things that require a high degree of organization. One might think that having them do those things might save the company money... But, I can assure you, it's costing the company MORE than it's saving it because it's keeping the sales team from doing what it does best... Selling.
