Having been away from family for a few years now, one of the toughest times is when a loved one falls ill. The distance brings anxiety and a sense of helplessness, along with guilt for not being able to support them in person. But I’ve learned that I can still provide emotional support from afar through small acts to show I am there, even when I’m miles away: 1. Stay Connected Regularly: I make regular check-ins via phone or video calls. Hearing my loved one's voice keeps me at peace and enables me to comfort them. 2. Send Thoughtful Messages: A heartfelt text, email, or prayer can brighten their day. I share positive news and funny anecdotes or simply let them know they’re in my thoughts. 3. Send Care Packages: A thoughtful care package with their favorite treats, books, suggestions for movies, or comfort items can lift their spirits and show them I care. 4. Offer Practical Help: Arranging for grocery deliveries, meal services, or help with household chores can be a great support. It can alleviate some of their stress and allow them to focus on recovery. 5. Be a Good Listener: Sometimes, they just need someone to listen. I try to make myself available to hear their concerns, fears, or frustrations without judgment. Supporting a loved one from afar isn't easy, but a little creativity and effort can make a big difference in their emotional well-being. #MentalHealth #EmotionalSupport #FamilyFirst #WellBeing #LongDistanceSupport #CareFromAfar

Heres a sample worksheet I use on self care Self care can be viewed as selfish but you can't pour from an empty cup! One of my favourite self care acts is getting an early night or reading a trashy magazine! What self care acts are you loving right now? #selfcare #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth

What we often need is just someone standing with us while we wait. Not to tell us what to think or feel, just someone to show genuine care and understanding of our needs.... I hope this blog post encourages you as you live through the "waiting" periods of "chronic illness life" or any waiting period in life. xx #waiting #chronicillness #support #ruok

Happy EMS week to all of who serve in a type of role - whether you are a basic, medic, nurse, firefighter, dispatcher, or educator (or any other type🙂). All of you deserve so much more than just this week to be recognized for the work you do. I also want to take a moment to share and educate for those of you who do not realize the work they do. It is so much more than the physical hours and labor. It’s “going cold” and setting aside your feelings to give it your all every single call. Just to wrap it up and wait for the next call. That medic could have just finished with a call with saving someone’s spouse to having a new call needing to save someone’s grandparent. Let’s also not forget the dispatchers that take that call or the other first responders that respond to help. I remember being worried about my husband transitioning from working on the ground to going to flight. Not for the fact that he would be in a helicopter, but for the fact he would see more of the “worst case scenarios”. I worried about his mental health and overall wellbeing. However, I’m grateful that he works for a company and a team that cares for his safety and wellbeing, both physical and mental. I guess where I’m trying to get with this is yes, let’s recognize and praise everyone for what they do. Thank them. But this job is a 24/7, 365 days a year job. The scenes, the calls, the good, and the bad never are forgotten. Be sure to check in on them. ♥️☎️🚑🚨🚁 #EMSWeek #mentalhealthmatters (Picture creds to my husband and his work partner on a late night call)
