I'm not exactly a "foodie" but I do love a good food court or festival. You know what I'm talking about, a really robust and bustling food festival with hundreds of different booths, each offering its own unique cuisine. Now, as a food booth owner, the goal is to attract as many hungry festival-goers as possible. Initially, you might think serving every type of cuisine—from sushi to spaghetti—will bring the biggest crowds. However, you soon notice that your booth looks just like every other booth, and visitors walk by, overwhelmed by the choices and unable to decide if your food is what they crave. This is similar to what I talked about in the recent Circle session on niche marketing. I illustrated the issue with my initially broad service offering in patient advocacy, resembling a food booth with an overwhelming menu. When my services were too broad, my message was diluted and my booth—my advocacy practice—blended in with others, not standing out to those who might need me the most. Understanding this concept, you might decide to specialize your food booth in gourmet vegan desserts, a niche you're passionate about and one that aligns with your unique skills as a patisserie chef. Now, your booth stands out. Lovers of vegan desserts flock to your booth because your clear signposting and specialized menu speak directly to their desires. My own experience echoes this strategy. I honed in on healthcare financial advocacy, selecting services I could excel at and passionately support. By choosing and refining my niche, just as you specialized your food booth, I attracted the right crowd—those who specifically needed my specialized services. Remember, at the vast food festival of businesses, finding and naming your unique booth—not trying to serve every dish to every passerby; but instead, focusing on delivering what you do best to those who most want it—will not only help you attract the right clients but will also ensure your practice thrives. 🌐 Data: The Catalyst of Modern Business 🌐 As I dived into another dataset today, I was reminded of the profound impact data has on shaping the future of businesses: Data isn't just figures on a spreadsheet. It’s stories, decisions, and future paths waiting to be discovered. Data Analysis is a deeper dive into data that can unveil patterns, trends, and insights that were previously hidden. It empowers businesses to make informed decisions, leading to growth and innovation. With the power of data comes the duty to use it ethically. Transparency, privacy, and accuracy are non-negotiable. The dataset seems to consist of wine reviews with the following columns: id: An identifier for the wine review. country: The country where the wine is from. description: A description of the wine. designation: The vineyard or specific label of the wine. points: The rating given to the wine. price: The price of the wine. province: The province or state where the wine is from. region_1 and region_2: Specific regions related to the wine. taster_name: The name of the person who tasted and reviewed the wine. taster_twitter_handle: The Twitter handle of the taster. title: The title of the wine review. variety: The variety or type of wine. winery: The winery that produced the wine. For organizations to thrive in this age, leveraging data is not an option—it's a necessity. It’s the difference between reacting to changes and anticipating them. #DataMatters #BusinessIntelligence #DataDrivenDecisions #InDataWeTrust For instance, the top 10 wine varieties based on the number of reviews are:

One year ago today, I launched Food Fix! Here's some of what I shared yesterday w/paid subscribers: It’s hard to believe that one year ago, I nervously hit send on the very first edition, which included an exclusive interview with FDA Commissioner Robert Califf about the agency’s reboot of the foods program – a major change sparked by my reporting and the infant formula debacle. Within a couple of weeks, all eyes were on the White House conference on hunger, nutrition and health. Food Fix was all over that historic gathering, offering in-depth reporting every step of the way. Paid subscribers also got the first detailed breakdown of the new national strategy. Infant formula was still a slow-moving train wreck, and I stayed on top of that, too, as other news outlets largely stopped covering the aftermath. I reminded everyone that this crisis could very well happen again – a fact that remains true today. We’ve covered FDA’s push toward front-of-pack labeling; the debate over what to call cell-cultivated meat; how states are forging ahead with universal free school meals; drama over FDA’s reorg; the SNAP pandemic benefits cliff; conflict over the Dietary Guidelines; and so much more. I never set out to do breaking news, but I have sent a handful of news alerts to paid subscribers in the past year. Subscribers were the first to know the White House conference lineup, that Frank Yiannas resigned from his post at FDA, and that former first lady Michelle Obama launched a kids food company. A long list of food policy leaders have been interviewed for this newsletter over the past year, from then-House Appropriations Chair Rosa DeLauro to Sen. Cory Booker to Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack. Former USDA chief of staff Ray Starling discussed the tension between farmers and foodies, and House ag approps chair Andy Harris shared insight on his plans for SNAP pilots and sodium reduction. Chef José Andrés explained why food is everything. This format has allowed me to be a tad more personal, weaving first-person insight into my reporting – something that I didn’t really get to do in previous reporting roles. I receive far more reader emails now than I ever got at Politico. The audience for Food Fix has tripled in the last year, and it continues to grow. In a short time, Food Fix has appeared many mainstream media outlets, from C-SPAN and CNN to NPR, Newshour and NBC. This little publication is also now credentialed on Capitol Hill. And these newsletters have been cited in congressional hearings! Sometimes I have to step back and remind myself how wild it is that Food Fix didn’t exist a year ago. I get a lot of questions about what's next. The truth is that I don’t know yet. My initial goal was to see if this would work. It’s working, so I’m starting to think about the next chapter. It was a great first year, and I look forward to making Food Fix even better in Year Two. https://lnkd.in/gd8rqyNr
