Some say the NFL means not for long. For name, image, and likeness (or NIL), my acronym is not interesting lately. Student-athletes underestimate how much time, strategy, and creativity is required for NIL success. You need to stay relevant, interesting, and perform well in your sport. Companies want to work with student-athletes that fit their brand image and can provide value to their customers. Understand the exact value you can provide and leverage that in your brand outreach. Although a lot of NIL money is done through collectives, student-athletes can successfully monetize their personal brands if they work at it consistently.
