Empiric medicine is denigrated as anecdotal and filled with the potential for bias, but prior generations of doctors held empiric medicine as one of their defining skills. How well can a practitioner utilize empiricism in a patient's care? Look at how a single patient helped define optimal dialysis strategies on my blog Hemodoc.com to see how Clyde Shields taught Belding Scribner how to perform Optimal Dialysis that still are defining strategies today. https://lnkd.in/gGPiGWgp

💙 Complementing regular vascular access monitoring, which is recommended for all patients on long term haemodialysis (1-3), the 6008’s Access Flow Monitor (AFM) can support healthcare professionals in adding a vascular access surveillance technique in a quick and efficient way: - Minimal staff training required to release time for care for patients - No additional equipment required - Paperless clinical record keeping in combination with the TDMS-option (Therapy Data Management System) - Supports a quick integration of regular access flow measurements into existing, locally agreed access monitoring protocols 👉 Curious about the economic impact of AFM for your dialysis department? ⏰ There's still time to register for our #webinar tomorrow night! #HealthProfessionals do you know that about 50% of referrals to nephrology services do not meet Australian nephrology referral guidelines? Early, effective referral to nephrology services are associated with positive patient outcomes. Join our #webinar on Tuesday 17th October at 7:30pm AEDT for a case study-based activity that will briefly outline medications required to slow progression of CKD. It will delve into when to refer and what comprises an effective referral to nephrology services. Optimal management of some CKD stage 5 complications will be addressed, along with kidney failure treatment options, particularly dialysis and the shared-decision pathway that can bring focus to this important process. RACGP / ACRRM educational activity hours = 1 (applied for) Register here: https://lnkd.in/g_P8bfkE Enquiries: primary.care@kidney.org.au

After a lull which has now picked up with FDA approvals, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? RQM+ VP of Intelligence and Innovation Jaishankar Kutty, Ph.D. shares the knowns and unknowns in a new video clip. 📝 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 Renal denervation is a technology that aims to control blood pressure by disrupting renal nerve activity through a minimally invasive, irreversible procedure. Clinical trial data is mixed, with modest reductions in blood pressure observed. Skepticism and uncertainties surround the technology due to risks, lack of markers for procedural success, and unclear durability of benefits. The post-market phase is crucial for generating more data and addressing unanswered questions. Patient population and risk-stratified benefit-risk analysis are important considerations, and a clinical outcomes study is needed to evaluate the impact of renal denervation on cardiovascular events. 💭 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 The state of play and the adjunctive nature of renal denervation in treating resistant hypertension in some patients. WHAT IS DIALYSIS?? ->Dialysis is a medical procedure that removes waste and excess fluid from the blood when the kidneys can no longer do so effectively. It is a life-saving treatment for people with kidney failure. There are two main types of dialysis: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. HEMODIALYSIS:- Hemodialysis involves using a machine to filter the blood. Blood is removed from the body and passed through a dialyzer, which is a special machine that cleanses the blood. The clean blood is then returned to the body." PERITONEAL DIALYSIS:- Peritoneal dialysis uses the lining of the abdomen (peritoneum) as a filter to clean the blood. A catheter is inserted into the abdomen, and dialysis fluid is pumped into the peritoneal cavity. Waste products from the blood are absorbed into the dialysis fluid, which is then drained from the abdomen and discarded. Dialysis is typically performed three times a week for several hours each session. However, the frequency of dialysis may vary depending on individual needs. Dialysis can be a demanding treatment, but it is also life-saving. It is crucial to collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to develop a personalized dialysis treatment plan. Dialysis offers several benefits, including: 1.Enhanced energy levels and improved strength 2.Effective management of blood pressure and anemia 3.Reduced risk of complications arising from kidney failure, such as heart disease and stroke #dialysis #nephroplus #nephrologist #DialysisTechnician #kidneyfailure #ckd #AKI
