Importance of palliative care Palliative care improves the quality of life of patients and that of their families who are facing challenges associated with life-threatening illness, whether physical, psychological, social or spiritual. The quality of life of caregivers improves as well. Each year, an estimated 56.8 million people, including 25.7 million in the last year of life, are in need of palliative care. Worldwide, only about 14% of people who need palliative care currently receive it. Unnecessarily restrictive regulations for morphine and other essential controlled palliative medicines deny access to adequate palliative care. Adequate national policies, programmes, resources, and training on palliative care among health professionals are urgently needed in order to improve access. The global need for palliative care will continue to grow as a result of the ageing of populations and the rising burden of noncommunicable diseases and some communicable diseases. Early delivery of palliative care reduces unnecessary hospital admissions and the use of health services. Palliative care involves a range of services delivered by a range of professionals that all have equally important roles to play – including physicians, nursing, support workers, paramedics, pharmacists, physiotherapists and volunteers –– in support of the patient and their family Palliative nursing Palliative care nursing involves the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of human responses to actual or potentially life-limiting illness and necessitates a dynamic, caring relationship with the patient and family to reduce suffering. Therefore, palliative nursing is a subspecialty of nursing practice that continues to evolve as the art and science of nursing #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #snsdesignthinking

When it comes to wound care, especially for bed-bound patients, pressure offloading is a game-changer! This simply means taking the pressure off the wound to promote healing. Here's why it's so important: 🟢Reduced Pressure, Faster Healing: Constant pressure can slow down healing and even damage tissues. Taking the pressure off helps wounds heal faster and reduces the risk of further injury. 🟢Improved Blood Flow: Pressure can cut off blood supply to the wound area. Offloading improves blood flow, which is essential for delivering oxygen and nutrients to promote healing. 🟢Less Pain, More Comfort: Pressure on wounds can be very painful. Offloading can significantly reduce pain and improve patient comfort. How can we achieve pressure offloading? There are many ways, like: 🟢Specialized beds and support surfaces: These can help distribute weight evenly and reduce pressure on specific areas. 🟢Frequent repositioning: Turning patients regularly helps to avoid pressure building up on one area. 🟢Proper seating and wheelchairs: Using supportive seating and wheelchairs can help prevent pressure on wounds while patients are sitting. By working together and implementing pressure offloading techniques, we can significantly improve wound healing outcomes for our patients. #woundcare #woundmanagement #pressureoffloading #woundhealing #bedsores #pressureinjuries #chronicwounds #diabeticwounds #nurses #doctors #healthcareprofessionals #patientcare #woundcaretips #evidencebasedpractice #skinintegrity #woundprevention #woundbedpreparation #healingprocess #letsworktogether #nursinglife #medicalprofessionals
