PHDMA's Narrative-based evaluation, a unique tool for monitoring and evaluation was talked about at National Conference for Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (NCMEL-2024). This approach has been taken up by Poverty & Human Development Monitoring Agency (PHDMA) since 2020 as contrast to the traditional and conventional modes of monitoring and evaluation. With a 360 degree approach, PHDMA works towards studying the impacts of various initiatives and policies at grassroots level by capturing the lived realities. The bottomline of this concept of narrative-based evaluation, which PHDMA has always believed, is stories speak louder than the numbers. In the current AI conundrum and technological evolution "information poverty" is one of the least debated topics. Here is an interesting analysis of the literature on information poverty, produced at the Global North vs Global South. U.S 30.48%, UK 24.76, and 64.76% of the authors from the Global North significantly outnumber those 35.24% from the Global South (including China). Rangarajan on "Consumption based poverty estimates have relevance" published in The Hindu newspaper today. we briefly examine the issues, particularly on methodology relating to the multidimensional poverty index, and argue that consumption-based poverty estimates are still very relevant. Delighted to be part of the Panel: Eliminating poverty – the future of international aid at the UNU-WIDER - United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research 2024 #devXroads conference in #Maputo along with Henk-Jan Brinkman, Aicha Robei, Rachel Gisselquist, Shanta Devarajan, and Frederik Matthys. If we continue on a path of business-as-usual, 7% of the world’s population will still live in extreme poverty in 2030. That is more than double our goal of 3%. International (f)actors can play different roles in supporting domestic approches to poverty reduction, such as: - Enter into the policy arena directly - Provide alternative sites for contestation - Shift the ideas and beliefs of actors - Shape incentives by providing resources or other inducements to commit to reforms Thanks to UNU-WIDER and Deputy Director Patricia Justino for the invitation.
