Minor league clubhouses all over America echoed a familiar phrase, "Don't like it, play better!" Peanut butter and jelly for the umpteenth time...don't like it, play better. Crash at 1-star motels in Middle America...don't like it, play better. Endless bus rides between towns...don't like it, play better. The minors threw challenges at us left and right. But here's the secret: control the controllable. It's no different in my current career. Few levers to pull, but they're powerful: - Effort - Attitude - Response - Preparation - Determination - Time management What's on your list of controllables?

Patience and perseverance is grossly underestimated! Extremely smart and intelligent team members tend to loose the initial value they bring when they dont have these two qualities and averagely smart team members with little or no skills, but with a high level of patience, perseverance and commitment to growing tend to acquire all the skills and intelligence they need and become extremely valuable to a team over time! Patience and perseverance is grossly underestimated! Always better to Play the long term game!
Found this video and it made me want to share this reminder. There is no such thing as overnight success. Everyone you see thriving today has invested countless hours to hone their skills and sharpen their craft. Serena Williams won her first Grand Slam in 1999 after playing professionally for five years. If she had given up in her second year, she wouldn’t be the icon she is today. Play the long game.

In honor of March Madness, I wanted to express exactly what the sport of basketball has done for not only my kids but also for me as a spectator. Sixteen years of soccer made me an athlete, but I had no idea what to expect when my kids laced up their shoes and stepped onto that court. The game of basketball took hold of me almost immediately; the pace, the excitement, and the absolutely mind-blowing athleticism! If my team isn't playing, I'll watch anyone who is. That is the kind of fan I am. So, what does this have to do with appraising? If you take your joy and compare it side by side with just about anything, you will find similarities, strategies, and eventually the sought-after triumph. My role is to make our team successful, to train them properly, have a concrete game plan, and, as much as possible, come away with a win. And in the event that victory is not attainable, we watch and review life's film and try again!

Since 2021, the NFL has included “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” in the Super Bowl in honor of Black History Month. This year, the criticism seemed louder, calling the song divisive and even offensive to our national anthem. Some even booed Andra Day as she belted out the inspirational tune. Much of that criticism stems from the song’s nickname as the Black National Anthem. 📚Quick History Lesson James Weldon Johnson wrote, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” as a poem in honor of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. His brother set it to music and a group of school children performed it for a celebration for the late president. Fast forward to 1919, one of the most violent years for Black Americans post Civil War. The NAACP declared “Lift Every Voice and Sing” their official song. They began promoting it as the Black National Anthem and as a rallying cry for the fight for freedom and justice. In 1919, the United States did not have a national anthem. We didn’t get that until 1931 when Congress officially made the “Star Spangled Banner” our national anthem. So is “Lift Every Voice and Sing” divisive? I’d say quite the opposite. The song doesn’t say lift Black voices, but every voice. Singing it is recognizing and honoring our history. It doesn’t replace or compete with our national anthem. It is a song that inspires and envisions liberty and justice for all. For those who take issue with its 125 year old nickname, is it the semantics that’s the issue or just the concept of freedom and justice for all? https://lnkd.in/eTmg8MJJ #lifteveryvoiceandsing #blackhistorymonth #blacknationalanthem #nfl #superbowl #andraday #nationalanthem #bhm #dei #diversityequityinclusion #superbowl2024 #diversity #historyfacts #historylessons #naacp

No matter how many people say you can't do something, use that as inspiration to prove them wrong." 🦅 Eddie the Eagle's story is a testament to resilience and determination. Despite not being a natural sportsman, he chased his Olympic dream relentlessly. While he didn't win any medals in the 1988 Calgary Games, he captured the hearts of fans worldwide with his comically inept yet endearing performance as a British ski jumper. Key takeaways from Eddie's journey: - Dare to dream big, even if it seems crazy to others. - Tune out the naysayers and focus on your goals. - Be your own biggest supporter and advocate. - Practice relentlessly to hone your skills. - Persevere in the face of challenges and setbacks. - Surround yourself with a supportive network of people who believe in you. It’s common as we age to start to limit what we think is possible. We start creating a narrative around limiting beliefs and excuses of why “I can’t do it”. Randy is 73 years old and ran the Brookfield classic 50k. He completed the race in 7 hours and 13 minutes. Since 2013 (age 63) he has completed 119 races. The next time you find yourself putting limits on what you think is possible, think of Randy and go get it done. https://lnkd.in/eY-Hysxu
