In July last year, the final structure of the Beekman Silos complex was imploded by O'ROURKE WRECKING COMPANY with the support of Ohio Department of Development funding. The first implosion in the city since 2002, the removal of the silos makes way for new development! With so much going on at Interwest Consulting Group its hard keep up on current events. That is why we have a weekly Planners Virtual Lunch where we get together to discuss current planning events (or just make fun each other).
We recently had an in-depth discussion about the proposed California Forever project. The discussion involved what is being proposed, what has been the downfall of similar projects in the past, impacts on surrounding communities and Travis Air Force Base, and the politics behind the proposal.
It was a lively discussion that ran well beyond our regularly scheduled time; but was well worth it as it enhanced everyone's knowledge on the topic.

Absolutely right. A major reason for the 1920’s peak is the second National Infrastructure Bank which took the initiative to make PA the center of manufacturing. Now is the time for the US to work on HR 4052 for the creation of the fifth National Infrastructure Bank. Let’s get it done; check out nibcoalition.com. #nationalinfrastructurebank
The Regional Transportation Council has boosted Parker County’s #transportation improvement journey, providing $56.6 million in federal/state funding on Feb. 8.
This new partnership adds to the county’s longstanding collaborations with the North Central Texas Council of Governments and the Texas Department of Transportation to address the challenges of rapid #growth.
In January, the #NCTCOG put another $6.1 million into the Old Weatherford Road reconstruction project, bringing funding to $16.6 million.
Facilitating these kinds of partnerships is an important element of Freese and Nichols support for meeting Parker County’s transportation needs.

130 Chicago buildings cooled with a carbon-neutral footprint.
As temperatures soared this past summer, district energy capitalized on new technology to chill cities in a more #sustainable way. CenTrio’s system uses ultra-filtered water from the famed Chicago River and North America’s largest “ice battery.”

This is a great way to learn about the upcoming planning projects that our region will be taking on in the next year, and to provide critical comments and support on projects we want to see. Some examples that Reconnect has presented previously include: Light Rail or Streetcar Feasibility Study, Bus Rapid Transit, and an East/West Trail Counterpart to the Genesee Riverway Trail.
Deadline to provide input is February 14th!

"Ogden Avenue carries fewer than 20,000 vehicles per day, yet it still includes two to four vehicular lanes in each direction and additional one-way service drives in both directions. This wide car-centric design encourages speeding and poses a barrier to pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders. The project will implement multiple Proven Safety Countermeasures such as eliminating vehicular lanes; installing pedestrian refuge islands; building protected bike lanes along the entire corridor; and adding pedestrian countdown timers and leading pedestrian intervals at all signalized intersections. The project will also add bump-outs, ADA-accessible bus stops, raised crosswalks, and left-turn phasing."
What an awesome project that will save lives, reduce emissions, and support neighborhood economic development. Bravo, CDOT.🚶♀️🚲🌎❤️
Assistant Commissioner, Chicago Department of Transportation
Great news! CDOT's Ogden Avenue Corridor Project receives a $21m SS4A grant to eliminate vehicular lanes, install pedestrian refuge islands, and build protected bike lanes along the entire corridor.
