💻When I went to college during my first two years, I didn't have a personal computer. I finished my writing assignments at the computer labs on campus. Email was just starting to get big, and we didn't have everything online. However, I did take a class that involved building a website during my first semester at #OccidentalCollege. And I learned there about the lack of digital equity depending on zip codes and community geography. ⏩ Fast-forward 20+ years and it is still the case that not every student goes to college equipped with a laptop and internet to complete their studies. But today, it is a MUST to have an internet connection and laptop to excel in our studies. 🔗This week, I'm celebrating Digital Inclusion Week along with my colleagues at Human-I-T. Nationwide, only some households can access affordable wi-fi internet or an internet-connected laptop. Want to help alleviate that? ♻Here's what you can do about it: Gather any unwanted tech to donate from your company, organization, or national data center. Clean out those IT storage units before the end of the year! 🙋♀️Connect with me: I coordinate the tech collections so that office tech can be turned into an opportunity to bridge the digital divide. #DigitalInclusionWeek #DigitialEquity #BrdigetheDivide #accountmanager
🌍 Let's kickstart Digital Inclusion Week on the right foot! 👣 Tech belongs to all of us! 💻💫 Discover how you can make an impact in bridging the digital divide. Click the link in bio to donate, shop for a cause, or get involved as a volunteer. Let's redefine tech accessibility together. 🌐 #DigitalInclusionWeek #TechForAll #human-i-t #DigitalInclusion #DigitalEquity #TechForGood #BridgetheGap

People of any age and socio-economic background can be excluded from using devices and the internet, meaning that everyday tasks such as accessing information, staying in touch with friends and family, and being able to work – are threatened. 1 in 7 people are deprived across two or more dimensions of digital, according to the Digital Poverty Alliance’s most recent report. In the digital age, all organisations, and indeed individuals, must play a role in creating an inclusive online environment. So, what is the role of charities, and how can they get started? 🎙️ Find out and listen to our latest podcast here ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eN6kSbnk 📊 Take our Digital Inclusion survey ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/e2p6R3Bc 🌎 Our Digital Inclusion Hub is here to help charities reach across the digital divide. Raise and support the next generation of leaders and young foresight practitioners! The annual Next Generation Foresight Practitioners - Young Voices (NGFP-YV) Awards is back. Organised jointly by Teach the Future and School for International Futures (#SOIF), it aims to encourage youth between 12 to 17 years old to pitch their visionary ideas and solutions to improve and impact the communities they live in. Even though most of us here on LinkedIn are no longer youth 😆. we can do our part in, not just one, but TWO ways. 1. Encourage our youth at home (yes, our children, for those of us who are parents) and youth we teach in schools and at work to take part in the competition. Check out https://lnkd.in/gFdUAj_D for application details. 2. Donate generously to the organisation of the awards, so that the awards can continue to recognise more and more well-deserving winners and projects year after year. #NGOAnalysis | For 46% of #NGOs studied, overseas sources made up more than half of their donation income in 2019-2022 (whenever data was available). Organisations focused on sustainability, gender, and healthcare were more likely to receive foreign funding. However, owing to government regulation on foreign funding, domestic funding rose 24% in 2021-22, while foreign donations grew 20%. “Indian domestic philanthropy has been growing and more new-age givers are actively exploring the space, adding to domestic donations,” says Vrunda Bansode, Partner at Sattva. In this LiveMint piece, Vrunda Bansode analyses data from an extensive study of the largest 176 NGOs. It traces the funding pattern of the ecosystem and its trends, including the composition of funding and the sectors that require more attention. As part of my philanthropic efforts, every summer I choose a charitable organization to support as a way of giving back to the community. My efforts have primarily focused on the areas of health, education, and safety for women and girls. I have been fortunate to support organizations both locally and abroad, not only through financial contributions but also by sharing my time and expertise. Although my philanthropic endeavors have remained private, this summer I chose to publicly support a startup non-profit organization called Empowerhealth for Community Development, based in Kenya, in the hope that others like you will join me in this very important and valuable work. As an American Association of University Women (AAUW) fellow and a leader in the Human Services industry, I have a deep passion for working with vulnerable populations and supporting charities and organizations that make a meaningful difference in underserved communities, particularly in the lives of women and girls. Empowerhealth for Community Development is one such organization. EHCD has embarked on a project to address the high incidences of teenage pregnancy in West Pokot County. It is noteworthy that West Pokot County ranks second among the counties with the highest occurrence of teenage pregnancies in Kenya, with approximately 800 girls aged 10-19 getting pregnant each month. Due to a mix of societal cultural beliefs, practices, and poverty, these girls often become young mothers and abandon their education. Among some of these practices is a custom called 'postponing periods,' where girls get pregnant to avoid the challenges and costs associated with menstruation. Additionally, societal taboos surrounding menstruation lead to 'period shaming,' where girls are perceived as ‘unclean’ or ‘embarrassing,’ inhibiting open discussion about menstruation at home or among friends. This menstrual stigma causes feelings of shame, embarrassment, fear, and can severely impact their self-esteem. Having grown up in Kenya and spent my early teenage years attending a girls' boarding high school, I understand firsthand the impact of menstrual stigma and its effects on one's mental health. Unlike in the United States, where The Menstrual Dignity Act of 2021 mandates the provision of free menstrual products for all menstruating students in public schools, the girls in West Pokot County heavily rely on well-wishers for these essential products. EHCD aims to provide girls in schools and homes in West Pokot County with menstrual and feminine hygiene kits to preserve their dignity, inspire their hopes and dreams, and encourage them to stay in school and avoid teenage pregnancy. If you share my passion for giving back and would like to make a difference in these girls' lives, please partner with EHCD and support their mission to create a safe space for the girls in West Pokot County, Kenya. At B.U.I.L.D Sports Africa, we are deeply inspired by the incredible work that Giants of Africa is doing. This organization has shown how sports, specifically basketball, can be a transformative force in the lives of African youth. We share a similar ethos with Giants of Africa, believing in the great potential of Africa's youth and the power of sports to harness their potential. Our mission at B.U.I.L.D Sports Africa goes beyond just developing athletic skills. Like Giants of Africa, we are committed to holistic development. We recognize that the journey of an athlete is not only about excelling in sports but also about becoming a leader and a positive influence in their community. We aim to nurture not just great athletes but great human beings who can inspire and lead their communities towards positive change. Giants of Africa has set a remarkable example by using basketball to instill hope, motivation, and discipline in young African minds. We take inspiration from their approach, understanding that each interaction with a young athlete is an opportunity to leave a lasting impact on their life. Collaboration with the global community is crucial for the success of initiatives similar to ours and Giants of Africa. It enables us to expand our reach, enhance our programs, and touch the lives of more young people across the continent. Each contribution, big or small, helps us move a step closer to realizing our vision. #basketball #nonprofit #goa #africa #youthempowerment #youthsports #ngo
Nearly 60% of the African population is under 25, and by 2030, young Africans are poised to make up 42% of the world's youth. Understanding the profound impact this will not only have on the African continent but on the world fuels our dedication as we strive to change lives through the power of basketball. Because it is so much more than just a game. Over the last two decades, we've impacted over 40,000 young minds across 17 African countries by providing opportunities to learn and grow both on and off the court. As we head into the new year, we remain steadfast in our continued commitment to empowering youth, and we need your support. When you contribute to our cause, you become an active part of our mission to help the next generation #DREAMBIG. Follow the link to donate and learn more: https://bit.ly/47muy5u
