This is one of the major takeaways for me from a brilliant book by a brilliant author. 📚 The quote that fascinates me was, 'You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.' 💡 Realizing this truth has forever changed my life. 🔄 For quite some time now, I've been shifting from setting ambitious goals to developing systems based on small daily habits. Long term thinking!!! I love this approach! It’s sometimes easy to cave to and do the quick easy thing…. Build a system to counter that urge especially when decision have long term effects! What went well? What could we have done better? What is the purpose of this next step? These are a few good questions to ask ourselves!!

Which systems have you put in place so you can exercise consistently? Here are a few systems that work for me: 1. I keep my foam roller in my living room so I remember to use it. Out of sight = out of mind. 2. I have scheduled "Do physio exercises" in my Google calendar, reccuring every Mon, Wed & Fri. PLUS I receive an email notification reminding me to do it. 3. I have a Plan A and Plan B. If I don't have the time or energy for a full body workout, the least I can do is 5-mins of band pull aparts to keep my shoulders healthy. This is is why I'm more growth focused than goal driven.

This is such a simple yet difficult concept to understand. Some simple math will show you the power of a little bit each day. If someone goes to the gym 4 days a week - 2 leg days, 2 upper days - does mostly body weight exercises and light weights. On upper days they might do 3 sets of 15 pushups, 45 per workout, which is a total of 90 for the week, 4,680 per year. But what if you just did one set of 20 every day - that's 140 per week and 7,280 per year. A little bit each day, and you've done 2,600 more pushups than someone who goes to the gym 4 days a week. Everyone has their own preferences for what they do at the gym and this is just an example, a powerful one, of how little things each day add up to big things. #habits #improvement

I promised myself I wouldn't have that glass of wine when I went to a function last night. Can you guess what happened....? When the bartender asked me what I'd like, instead of that glass of sparkling water I intended, I ordered a lovely glass of GSM.... to compliment my steak.... I enjoyed every drop. Anyone who knows me from my nightclub & restaurant days #hospitalitybusinesses will not be surprised at this story...those neural pathways are still strong on occasion after all these years 🍷 So what's the problem here? It was upon heading home that I started feeling that familiar feeling of regret. Not because I didn't enjoy it, but moreso because I didn't keep that commitment to myself. Not the end of the world. No big deal really. But a micro tear in my trust in myself. I want to trust myself to do what I say I'll do. Keeping my word to myself helps build my self trust and self-confidence muscle. As a practice, I feel stronger every time I make a conscious decision to take a certain action and then to keep that promise to myself. Do you keep your micro promises to yourself?
