A hill I will die on is the role of the manager in employee career development! Thank you Eric Girard for allowing me to continue to die on this hill by inviting me on the Management Development Unlocked podcast to talk about a topic that I literally will not get tired of talking about! Managers have lots to do but this is one responsibility that we can no longer brush aside. In this episode I share how I think careers are changing, and a few examples of the specific ways in which managers can support employee career development in ways that drive employee engagement and business results given the changing nature of the workplace Thank you Eric! Fairness Development Purpose Culture Time and time again, these things keep coming up as inputs to employee engagement .. What might that look like? Pay people fairly and equitably. Have processes that are applied when they need to be. Address the gender pay gap. Look at what inclusion actually means for your people. Have meaningful development available - whether that’s study, training, projects, coaching, stretch opportunities, provide meaningful feedback, secondments, recognition and rewards that work, mentoring, collaboration with someone new, becoming the expert in something.. the list goes on .. but make it meaningful to the person. Purpose - have a vision that makes people get out of bed. Show them how their work connects directly with the vision. Show them how they’re making a difference. Culture - look at the culture you’ve got. Do people want to stay or leave? Does it promote fairness? Does it promote purpose? How does it show up in the symbols, behaviours and systems? None of this needs to be fancy - it just needs proper exploration of what’s relevant in your organisation and then consistent application in a meaningful way.. #coaching #leadership #buildingbetterworkplaces McKinsey & Company

What Tammy said 👌🏼 We really have a habit of over complicating what it takes for workplaces and our people to thrive, when all we really need is safety, purpose, trust, transparency, clarity and fairness. Building these core components into our HR process taxonomy at every stage of the employee lifecycle (with consistency in application) goes along way to creating a meaningful and engaging employee experience. Sounds easier said than done? It starts with leadership walking the talk. #buildingbetterworkplaces #culture #employeeengagment #peopleperformance

A positive employee experience improves retention. We spend a lot of time at work. Making it an enjoyable experience is a win-win. A positive employee experience helps employers put their organisation in the spotlight and showcase how great they are to work for. A poor employee experience will damage retention. You don’t want to be featured in the latest viral social media video about someone quitting their job. Yes, it is another trend. And no, it’s not pretty! There are even articles listing the best QuitTok videos. There are many examples of great employee experience. Instead, we’re highlighting some of the bad ones as examples of what not to do. Some are so terrible they’re funny! To find out more, read the Heart Talent blog. https://lnkd.in/g7iMfdm7 #employeeexperience #leadership #talentengagement #employerbrand

Harnessing the Power of Storytelling in HR Storytelling isn't just for novels or movies—it's a powerful tool in HR too! Last year, I encountered a challenge: our employee engagement levels were at an all-time low. Despite various initiatives, nothing seemed to resonate with our team. We decided to try something different: storytelling. Every week, we began sharing stories about our employees' contributions to the company's mission. We called it "Mission Mondays." These stories highlighted real examples of how individual efforts made a significant impact. The result? Engagement scores skyrocketed by 30%! Employees felt more connected and motivated, knowing their work truly mattered. This experience reaffirmed a crucial lesson: People connect with stories. By weaving our goals and values into relatable narratives, we can inspire and engage our teams more effectively. Have you used storytelling in your HR practices? I'd love to hear your experiences! #HR #Storytelling #EmployeeEngagement #Leadership #ProfessionalDevelopment
