🌟 Celebrating International Women's Day with a Focus on Pelvic Health 🚺 Today, on International Women's Day, we extend our appreciation to all the brilliant women who have participated in our pilot study, contributing to the advancement of our pelvic organ prolapse solution. Your invaluable feedback has enabled us to establish a solid proof-of-concept and embark on the next phase of our journey: at-home testing. With promising feedback from the early stages of this phase, we're confident in our ability to develop a solution that works as users want it to. Through countless conversations with women who have faced challenges within the healthcare system, we've gained profound insights. We understand that solutions for pelvic organ prolapse must address the day-to-day lives and lifestyles of each woman, beyond the confines of a snapshot consultation in a patient-clinician relationship. That's why our focus lies in creating a solution that not only offers accurate support but also empowers women with autonomy and control. Our results thus far indicate that we are making significant strides in realising this vision. It's alarming that over 200 million women suffer from symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse, yet treatment options remain limited. Waiting times for gynaecology appointments are rising, so already underprioritized conditions like prolapse slip further down the list. Primary treatments like surgery and pessaries come with their own set of challenges, including risks, high costs, and high reoperation rates. The fact that half of women using a pessary discontinue within 3-12 months due to expulsion, erosion, discomfort, and inefficiency highlights the urgent need for better solutions. For many survivors, the journey towards self-acceptance involves reconciling with changes to their most identifying feature: their face. It's a testament to their incredible strength that many choose not to undergo aesthetic surgery, not because options aren't available, but because they recognise that every alteration to their appearance is, in fact, an alteration of their #identity. This #choice is a powerful statement in our appearance-driven #society. It challenges us to confront our own biases and to expand our understanding of beauty. It's not about rejecting medical intervention but about control over one's identity and the refusal to conform to conventional beauty standards for the sake of acceptance. The Elysium Noma Survivors Association stands in solidarity with every Noma survivor in their journey towards self-acceptance. We believe that by sharing their stories, we can inspire a more inclusive definition of beauty that celebrates diversity and resilience.
