𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐚 𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐲 𝐖𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐈𝐎 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐈𝐀 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐥: 𝐀 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐬 I recently completed a 𝑴𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒄 course at the Iran Technical & Vocational Training Organization with my friend Amir Atapour. 𝑴𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒄 is a multidisciplinary field that combines mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering. 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐈𝐎 and 𝐓𝐈𝐀 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐥 are software tools that allow you to design, simulate, and program industrial automation systems. One of the projects that we worked on was a sorting-by-weight system. This is a system that uses a conveyor belt, a scale, and a pusher to sort objects by their weight. The system detects the weight of each object on the scale and then activates the pusher to move the object to the left, forward, or right side of the conveyor belt, depending on a predefined threshold. To program the system, we used a 𝑺𝒊𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒔 𝑺7-1500 𝑷𝑳𝑪 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒉 𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒖𝒂𝒈𝒆. We connected the PLC to the 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐈𝐎 simulation via PLC Sim Advanced, a software that allows you to simulate your PLC without the need for physical hardware. We wrote the code to read the inputs from the sensors and write the outputs to the pusher. The project was challenging but rewarding, as we learned how to apply the concepts of mechatronics to a real-world problem. We also gained valuable skills in using 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐈𝐎 and 𝐓𝐈𝐀 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐥, which are widely used in the industry. We are proud of our achievement and we look forward to learning more about mechatronics and industrial automation. This is just one of the many things that we learned in this course. My latest projects , where I have designed a cutting-edge motor starting system using the power of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) technology. Leveraging my expertise in Ladder language programming by CODRSYS, I have successfully implemented a state-of-Star-Delta starting system that promises enhanced efficiency and control. In the world of industrial automation, motor starting plays a critical role in ensuring smooth operations while minimizing power surges and electrical stress. The Star-Delta starting method is widely recognized for its ability to reduce inrush currents and provide a gentle start to motors, thereby prolonging equipment lifespan and optimizing energy consumption. To take this tried-and-true starting method to new heights, I integrated a PLC into the system architecture, empowering it with advanced control and monitoring capabilities. The PLC acts as the intelligent brain, overseeing the entire motor starting process and executing precise commands based on real-time data and predefined logic. Based on requirements and Input/Outputs we used PLC [CPU 1212C AC/DC/Rly], analog input card 6ES7231-4HF32- 0XB0_G_ST70_XX_98705V, and HMI [TP2200 Comfort PRO]   Operation: 1. Press the start button or HMI tab to connect the main power contactor. 2. Press the stop button or HMI tab to disconnect the main power contactor. 3. Low-level sensor fills the feed tank until the high-level sensor closes the valve. 4. Select the Start tab to activate the feed pump during tank filling. 5. Select the Stop tab to turn off the feed pump, RO pump, and components. 6. Inlet pressure below 70 psi continues operation; above 75 psi, the feed pump turns off. 7. The feed pump transfers water to the sand filter for initial purification. 8. Water passes through a carbon filter for further particle separation. 9. Water softener removes salts with 9 resins. 10. Water undergoes purification in a PCC filter. 11. The RO pump turns on at 40-70 psi, sending water to the membrane filter. 12. Wastewater goes to the drain, and mineral water to a storage tank, is monitored by flow meters. 13. Input water fills the main storage tank. 14. Gauge values are adjustable via operator settings on HMI. 15. Excessive filter pressure or TDS triggers a warning LED on HMI. 16. The feed pump shuts off at excessive pressure; the operator resolves and resets on HMI. 17. TDS range of 300-500 ppm; warning LED on HMI if exceeded. Basic settings and design for the device: The basic settings for the device are as follows. The operator engineer can modify the values within the permissible standard range based on their practical experience with the device. 1. The allowable pressure limit for the Inlet, Sand, Carbon, and Softener filters is between 40 to 70 psi. If the pressure in any of these filters exceeds 80 psi, it indicates clogging, and the corresponding LED warning on the HMI screen will activate, and the Feed Pump will shut off. 2. If the Pressure Switch pressure is within the permissible range (40-70 psi), the RO Pump will turn on. 3. The allowable pressure range for the Membrane Filter is between 150 to 250 psi. If the pressure exceeds 270 psi, it indicates clogging, and the corresponding LED warning will activate, and the RO Pump will shut off. 4. The permissible TDS range is between 300 to 500 ppm.
