When someone asks you what car you drive, do you name the brand of the car or the model? I mean, do you say you drive a Hyundai or do you say you drive a Tucson? A guy who drives a Mercedes won't say he drives a C-class unless he's trying to be humble... He'll always say he drives a Mercedes. But the guy who drives a Mercedes S580 will probably say he drives a Maybach.. because the Maybach is a bigger brand than the Mercedes. So, if you say Tucson, you're afraid they shouldn't assume you drive the Santro (a lower priced Hyundai) by calling it a Hyundai. I believe this is the simplest way to understand brand. We all need to work towards building our brand in a way that no one says you're just an accountant or their designer or whatever it is that your profession is called. Them naming you should be enough. Because beyond a point, you want to call yourself a Mercedes, but the world should know it's a Maybach! #brandbuilding #Marketing #Buisness #Perspective #Mercedes #Maybach #Hyundai

I went car window shopping on Tuesday. Whilst I'm not in the market for a £400k Roller, it was fun to stroll around some prestige car showrooms in Hatfield. (and I have history ....I once went shopping for a microwave and came bak with a brand new car!!!) So how good were their sales techniques? First place: Bentley.... saw we were looking, kept their distance but were watching carefully to see when we needed help. Came over, complimented us on our taste and had a super conversation without being pushy. that's it..... everyone else was a bit rubbish Lanboughini: ignored us Porsche: 4 people behind the counter. They smiled but made no effort to engage with us. Landrover: no one in the showroom, then when that turned up, they ignored us. Jaguar: 3 people hovering nervously as I sat in several cars, but no approach if any kind (daft, as, of all the cars, one of the jags was of interest). Is it any wonder that car dealerships sometimes get a bad reputation. clearly the Bentley lady had been given some really good training - she was spot on. But the rest? Oh dear. You drive a 5 year old Ford, it's a good car, it works, it has 4 wheels and an engine. No need to change it right? Now imagine someone offers you a Ferrari for the same cost of your Ford. It's performance is better, it's (arguably) more desirable, it has the latest tech. Let's go one step further, imagine the Ferrari has lower running costs, better MPG and is actually going to save you money whilst getting you to your meeting in less time.
