Traditional monitoring and evaluation often miss the nuanced needs of local communities, undermining development initiatives' effectiveness. By adopting culturally responsive participatory approaches, investing in robust data systems that reflect local realities, and implementing long-term actionable strategies, organizations can achieve more impactful and scalable development outcomes. Join our online panel discussion, co-hosted by GRAAM and ISDM, as a part of gLocal Evaluation Week as we address these challenges and explore strategies for making the evaluation process truly community-centric. Participate to learn more about participatory approaches to M&E! Working in collaboration with our clients, we are exploring different evaluation methodologies to uncover unique insights and a broader range of impacts from clients' projects. Through our Ripple Effect Mapping (REM) we can capture nuanced impacts of social interventions. This has enabled us to: ▶ Gain new insights: REM workshops bring stakeholders together to map out the broader effects of initiatives over time. ▶ Go beyond metrics: It enables us to understand the full spectrum of impacts, both intended and unintended, with visual and participatory approaches. ▶ Ensure a collaborative approach to evaluation: REM fosters collective ownership and deeper insights into project outcomes. Read our latest blog to see how, in many cases, this is transforming our approach to project evaluation. https://lnkd.in/ezCZwDkB For more information, contact Eddie Knight or Simon Tanner #Evaluation #RippleEffectMapping #SocialImpact #WavehillResearch

We aim to develop a well-informed, comprehensive, and purposeful ELSI framework to help guide, clarify, justify, and evaluate investments as it seeks to support the development of high-impact solutions to society’s most challenging health problems. We want to know, ❓What questions do you have about APRA-H’s future ELSI initiative? These questions may be incorporated into the discussion. ❓How might APRA-H strive to address health equity issues in the community you serve (e.g., access or affordability)? ❓What are the most important factors to account for to promote the widespread adoption of new health technologies in patient communities? #HLTH2023 https://lnkd.in/eCwSDAKp

The field of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) within development and humanitarian contexts is witnessing significant shifts with technological advancements, participatory, impact & outcome-driven methodologies, reshaping how any MEAL practioner should reposition themselves to remain relevant. Traditional top-down MEAL approaches are being replaced by more inclusive, dynamic processes that prioritize community engagement and empowerment. Community-Led Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (CoMEAL) represents a pivotal shift in MEL approaches, placing communities at the forefront of development and humanitarian initiatives. This participatory approach not only leverages local knowledge and perspectives but also fosters a culture of transparency, empowerment, and adaptive decision-making. Are we integrating adaptive management impact, outcome and participatory approaches in organisational MEL? Do we leverage emerging technologies, adapt strategies to navigate complex challenges and communicate results effectively? Let's reflect on driving meaningful change in our daily MEL practices.

Participatory M&E is about engaging different stakeholders, especially targeted beneficiaries, in monitoring and evaluation processes. It is done to generate better M&E information and/or to empower stakeholders. It is facilitated through two main approaches. The first is a set of tools and methods used to enable effective M&E. The second is the attitudes and behaviour needed to support meaningful participation. Participatory M&E is about engaging different stakeholders within monitoring and evaluation processes. It is usually taken to refer to the involvement of targeted individuals, groups or communities. These are often known as ‘beneficiaries’ in common aid terminology (see box opposite). However, participation can mean different things in different contexts. Participatory M&E is located within a wider field of participatory approaches. These can be defined as: “a growing family of approaches, methods, attitudes and behaviours to enable and empower people to share, analyse and enhance their knowledge of life and conditions, and to plan, act, monitor, evaluate and reflect.” (Chambers 2008) More: https://lnkd.in/gJKKUAVA

🎓 How can evaluation contribute to understanding, apprehending or even managing complexity? Two approaches are Outcome Mapping and Developmental Evaluation. 🔹 Outcome Mapping is a methodology for planning and assessing programs that focuses on understanding outcomes ""that emerge downstream from the initiative’s activities but upstream from longer-term economic, environmental, political or demographic changes"" (Better Evaluation). 🔹 Developmental Evaluation “applies to an ongoing process of innovation in which both the path and the destination are evolving . . . to support innovation within a context of uncertainty” (Gamble, 2008) Leslie Ayre-Jaschke presented on these topics in a past CES conference, which can be found in the ➡️ CES Grey Literature Database: https://ow.ly/k0JH50PCzsW (member login required) #evaluation #cyberinsitut #SCE
