Today marks the first day of Jewish American Heritage Month. As the daughter of Tunisian refugees, who faced persecution and threat of death for the mere "sin" of being Jewish, as the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, as a mother, my identity as a Jew has never been so prominent among my identities. As I write this post, we are having to deal with antisemitism at my kids' high school. My own LinkedIn profile was targeted last week for, I can only assume since there were no merits to the targeting, my identity as Jewish and Israeli. Tomer Cohen's words resonate deeply with my experience over the last six months. Antisemitism is the oldest form of identity-based hatred. It rears its head through different narratives each time, but the underlying subtext does not change. How do you know that what you're seeing is antisemitism? Look for the Three D's: Dehumanization, Demonization, and Double-Standards. We have seen what it can lead to, I hope with all my heart that we have learned from history and will not let it repeat itself in our lifetime. עושה שלום במרומיו הוא ברחמיו יעשה שלום עלינו, ועל כל ישראל, ואמרו אמן.

Today marks the beginning of May as Jewish American Heritage Month. I must admit, until this past year, I hadn't fully recognized the significance of Jewish American Heritage Month. These days, I am painfully reminded daily of its importance. "Here at home, too many Jews live with deep pain and fear from the ferocious surge of antisemitism — in our communities; at schools, places of worship, and colleges; and across social media. These acts are despicable and echo the worst chapters of human history. They remind us that hate never goes away — it only hides until it is given oxygen. It is our shared moral responsibility to forcefully stand up to antisemitism and to make clear that hate can have no safe harbor in America." - President Biden Fighting antisemitism starts with education but doesn't end there. It is crucially important to speak out. The venom of antisemitism happens partly because many chose silence, being either afraid, ignorant, or indifferent. It is our moral duty to speak up and ensure history does not repeat itself. Read yesterday's full proclamation by President Biden: https://lnkd.in/eRrb3m4X
