Many talk about keeping materials in use or in the flow but rarely you see it happening in one project. So here is the flow for this project presented at #BIG2024 (Biennale Internazionale Grafica ) 1) fishing nets also from Healthy Seas and other nylon waste became yarn for a beautiful carpet for the Helmut Newton exhibition in Milano. 2) That carpet was used for the exhibition and then, most of it, was reused thanks to the ingenuity and dedication of Franco Achilli and Aquafil Group. 3) 2 pieces of the carpet were given to each of a group of 9 artists and illustrators to create beautiful art pieces from them, adding their own style and techniques. 4) the 16 art pieces/rugs are now being sold, and the money will go to Healthy Seas for more marine conservation activities. What if all the materials were to have these many lives, and all so beautiful? Circular economy is not only about recycling and materials but also about beauty and dedication! 💕 Good journey beautiful rugs! Excited to be co-chair of the #DesignEntrepreneurship track with Youmin Yuan, NACAA Dean! In our track, we intend to explore the transition of intercultural designers and entrepreneurs from "designing" to "leading." We hope to investigate this evolution from hands-on design to leadership roles, and the requisite dependencies on shared understanding with greater agency in diverse co-creation networks. The track will also examine how the planet can serve as a literal and metaphorical boundary object for intersubjective understanding. We plan to highlight the unique perspectives designers bring as their ethical influence increases, identifying and addressing gaps in their capacities to fulfill this new frontier. Although less than a year away, we expect our discussions will focus on the dilemmas of maintaining creative essence while assuming leadership responsibilities, in addition to changing organizational and business models by ethically evolving with new tools, shared language, creative economies. The track encourages research on how trained designers take on leadership roles outside traditional design disciplines, particularly as they extend into entrepreneurs. We will discuss the power of purpose in designing more ethical businesses, including the levers of equitable business models, sustainable practices, and public-private partnerships. Join us in Nantes for these important discussions and contribute to the evolving landscape of design and entrepreneurship as ethical leadership becomes our common raison d'être!
