This week, our delegates from SIGLO’s impact investing team Ratana Tra, CFA and Siti Dawson attended the annual Global Impact Investor Network Forum which took place in beautiful Copenhagen. The GIIN Forum brings together thought leaders, practitioners and asset owners/managers from across the world to discuss market developments and exchange views about established and new investment opportunities within the ever growing space of impact investing. The last three days were packed with inspiring presentations, roundtable discussions - and meeting with many dedicated (and highly successful) impact investment professionals. We have received many inputs and would like to share some key take aways for SIGLO's own impact investment practice: 🗝 Keep it simple: Intuitive, easily understandable quantitative metrics are essential - not only to have proof of impact (“people want to know the impact bang for their dollar buck”), but also to create trust and comfort amongst asset owners who consider an allocation to the impact investing space for the first time. 🗝 Keep it inclusive: The variety of impact-driven investment approaches and strategies across different asset classes (both in public and private markets) makes it now even easier to match investors' return expectations with their sustainability and impact preferrences. People will always have different views or definition of the term "impact investing” and there is no reason for claiming exclusivity. 🗝 Keep a broad view: “Climate” investing is not only limited to the renewable energy sector. Technologies for improving energy efficiency, low-emission construction practices etc. are crucial to achieve the long-term goal of decarbonizing economic systems, as fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas are here to stay for a long time. The (urgent) goal of mitigating climate change and adapting to its effects is connecting multiple environmental and social investment themes and more attractive opportunities can be found by thinking in systems rather than in stand-alone solutions. #GIINforum2023 #copenhagen ##impactinvesting
