Schroders publishes its 2023 "Institutional Investor Study", a global review of perspectives from 770 pensions, life companies and endowments (and in quick-loading flipbook format, for readers in a hurry). It is hard to escape sustainability, impact and decarbonisation as themes that run through asset owner attitudes these days, especially with respect to investment in private markets. Half of EMEA asset owners, for example, view sustainability and impact as important motivators for investing in private markets (although other regions don't all share that view). And useful insight on what asset owners are looking for from their asset managers in their shareholder engagement, with real-world outcomes for companies' stakeholders ranked first, ahead of improved financial performance. The latest IRRESPONSIBLE ESG rip-off by a so-called responsible leader in ESG investing. Charging pension fund clients to add exclusions to their portfolios. This is another shameful example of an investment firm taking liberties with their investors' money. The thought of passing these costs on wouldn't even cross our minds, so whose minds did it cross at Aviva and who thought this was a sensible idea? #esginvesting #pensions #assetmanagement

It’s important to us that we stay close to understanding the key drivers impacting our clients in pensions, asset management and wealth management. In our most recent survey, we asked asset owners about their perspective on some of the drivers that could shape the financial services industry – digital assets, sustainability and ETFs. The highlights of the CACEIS survey that really resonated with me include: ��� Government policy and regulation are still major influences in shaping sustainability strategies. However, respondents highlighted that ESG and climate change holds various risks for their portfolios – managing sustainability risk is firmly gaining recognition. 👉 Digital assets and tokenisation will have a transformative impact on areas like liquidity and the ability to more easily access private assets. 👉 Asset owners are becoming much more sophisticated in their use of ETFs. And yet another acquisition!! Mercer has inked a deal to acquire Cardano, a long-term savings specialist that provides investment management and advisory services. This move expands Mercer's reach in the UK and Netherlands. Cardano offers a range of fiduciary management, investment advisory services, and liability-driven investing and derivatives solutions to both defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) pension schemes in the UK and the Netherlands, the two largest pensions markets in Europe.
