With only 4 days in cinemas, #GoatLife secured a place in the top 10 movies Q1/24 in UAE. Released on March 28th, this film quickly climbed the ranks and secured the #6 position. This title is a testament to the power of diverse and engaging content. During the first quarter of this year, the GCC market experienced a drop in performance compared to last year. However, the UAE Box Office only had a 7.8% decrease in the first 3 months of the year - while other countries had two-digit decreases. One of the reasons why the UAE market performed better than the rest of the countries is the presence of multiple sources of film supply. The number and variety of non-US titles increased in UAE for the first three months of the year. This shift in content mix significantly impacted the market, with Indian content representing 48% of the box office, compared with 39% last year, proving the potential of diverse content in driving market growth and resilience. Diversity of content is key to returning to pre-pandemic performance in the GCC region.

My personal philosophy is based on The Multiplier Effect: how to ensure 1+1 = 11 in every relationship. Forget B2C or B2B; focus on H2H interaction. Zero sum solutions are passé!
Let ME (Middle East) entertain you! The Middle East has a rich cultural heritage that demands local content strategies that take into account the local culture in script and film production. Replicating Hollywood in the region is not a viable solution, as Americanizing scripts will not necessarily lead to commercial success. Instead, we should focus on economically sustainable projects that ensure longevity in the industry. Overspending on budgets has resulted in many studios declaring bankruptcy, so let's learn from history and prioritize financially viable projects that provide sustainable employment opportunities, broadens the local cultures and creates a functioning ecosystem with network effects. Independent film producers have a great opportunity to work in the Middle East, where the theatrical infrastructure is growing rapidly. The diversity of content required in some markets, due to the melting pot of cultures, makes this an exciting time for the industry. A data driven approach is essential. As always, the choreography always matters at all levels. Let's take inspiration from the region's rich cultural heritage and create content that resonates with local and global audiences and showcase to the rest of the world that the Middle East is now here to entertain the world! The dawn of AlUla’s cinematic era has just begun. Today at the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, alongside our CEO Amr AlMadani, I had the privilege of being part of a significant milestone in AlUla’s history. Film AlUla, RCU’s film agency, has just signed a groundbreaking three-year partnership with global media company Stampede Ventures. Over the coming years, this partnership will bring no less than 10 productions to AlUla, which we all know for its stunning landscapes and picture-perfect locations. That means the sharing of 10 different perspectives that stand as a testament to AlUla's remarkable transformation as one of the world’s top luxury boutique destinations for history and heritage, art and culture, adventure, creativity and more. This deal is not merely a business venture; it is a collaboration that is set to redefine the city’s growth for years to come, drawing in global filmmaking talent, creating opportunities for AlUla’s economy and its people, and fostering heightened cultural development. At RCU, we are excited for the potential this brings in positioning AlUla and its ancient story, enabling it to take centre stage in an entirely new way – one that will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on the world of cinema.
