Are we helping or hurting? That is a question many residents of San Francisco ask ourselves in the midst of a stark and increasing equity gap. As a parent, community member, and incoming board member of the Horizons at San Francisco Friends School, I’m keenly aware of the potential learning loss our public school students in the Mission District experience in the summer months without our support. Our city is undergoing another crisis - looming budget cuts threaten vital programs like Horizons at SFFS that provide equitable learning for Mission youth. We urgently need your support to secure bridge funding and ensure our summer enrichment continues. Our scholars and families are relying on Horizons' high-quality academics and social-emotional growth. Horizons has been successfully leveraging the months when students are out of school to stem summer learning loss for children in San Francisco for ~10 years. The program has also intentionally increased impact by supporting their scholars through their educational journey during the school year and into High School. Last year, Horizons impacted 150+ scholars with targeted small classroom instruction, confidence-building, and joyful community enrichment experiences- thanks to our dedicated summer education workforce. But we can't continue without you. Please join me in supporting Horizons at SFFS today to expand partnerships, engage more crisis-impacted families, and grow our supportive community stronger. In past years, the SF Department of Children, Youth and Families has been a partner to increase access to education for our students. This summer, as we face a potential 40% loss to our summer program due to DCYF funding cuts that have impacted so many vital programs in our city, we’ve decided to celebrate Horizons Giving Day, the whole month of May. Please join me in our movement - your gift saves the summer for San Francisco scholars and helps bridge the educational equity gap in our city. Let’s help together. Kali, our Marketing and Outreach Manager, is participating in this year’s Leadership Carroll cohort, and one of the cohort’s projects this year is to support early literacy in our community! They are developing family literacy kits that will be given to new families at Tanner during July. In addition to the kits, the group also wants to generate support for the existing literacy programs in the county. According to Ferst Readers, 37% of children arrive at kindergarten without the skills necessary for lifetime learning. Not only that, but cognitive processes develop rapidly in the first few years of life. By age 3, roughly 85% of the brain is developed. However, traditional education takes place in grades K-12, which begins at age five. Please consider donating to Ferst Readers and the West Georgia Regional Library System's 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program and help support early literacy in our community! Happy #givemiamiday! If you have a few dollars to spare, The SEED School of Miami could use your support. Donate at: https://lnkd.in/eV2abs3M #seedmiami is a public college-prep boarding school that serves students from South Florida's most under resourced communities. Thanks to the unique SEED Model, SEED Network graduates are out-performing their peers. SEED graduates are 4x more likely to graduate from college than a child with a similar demographic. In fact, when compared to national averages, SEED Network graduates have higher rates of High School Graduation (90% vs. 86%), College Enrollment (98% vs. 40%), and College Graduation (48% vs. 34%)!

It's Teacher Appreciation Day! A huge thank you to the faculty & professionals who support us campus recruiters- we appreciate your generosity, letting us into your classrooms, and the phenomenal work you do preparing students for the workforce! 💓 If you're wondering why this day exists (it's also Nurse's Appreciation Week!) it's because these professionals are typically overworked, underpaid, and underrecognized. What can you do to help?! 💥 If you're a parent/ caregiver, get to know your child's teachers. A simple introduction, letting them know they have your support, or a random treat goes a long way! 💥 If you're a business owner/ leader, seek ways to support school districts and educational nonprofits in your spheres. Your resources, whether that's offering discounts, donations, or your voice, uplift communities and shine a light on issues that matter! 💥 If you're a human whose life has been impacted by an educator, reach out! A simple thank you can reinvigorate a teacher and remind them why they do what they do, especially at the end of the year when they're feeling drained. Here are a few of my favorite educators who I miss collaborating with everyday 📓 Thank you teachers, you make the world go round!!

🚨 The future of our community's children is at stake! 🚨 Early childhood literacy is a critical issue that needs immediate attention. Recent statistics from the 2024 KIDS COUNT Data Book by the Annie E. Casey Foundation reveal alarming challenges in California, where 69% of fourth graders are not currently reading proficiently. This alarming statistic threatens their academic success and life prospects, with minority and low-income children being hit the hardest. A staggering 82% of fourth graders in California who qualify for free or reduced lunch are currently not meeting reading proficiency standards. We cannot ignore these stark disparities! When children develop strong literacy skills, they unlock their full potential for academic and lifelong success. United Way of San Diego County is tackling this crisis head-on, but we need your help. Supporting early literacy is a vital investment in our community's future prosperity. By donating to United Way of San Diego County, you help break down barriers and open doors to educational and economic success for all. Give today and be a champion for educational and economic equity to ensure all our community's children, individuals, and families have a bright future! 🌟📚 https://lnkd.in/gdHwRsGW

Dear LinkedIn Friends, Today, Im reaching out to you with a matter of great concern that requires our collective attention: the impending child care crisis affecting Georgia's families. The early education system, the cornerstone of our children's futures, operates on an unsustainable business model. Child care businesses are a vital part of our economy, yet this sector hasn't fully recovered after the pandemic, and experienced teachers are leaving en masse because of historical low wages. Providing the high‐quality education our youngest learners require in their crucial first five years comes at a steep cost. It is time to recognize that child care cannot be sustained on the backs of parents. It must be part of what we invest in our nation's future. Quality Care for Children, on whose board I serve, is diligently working in partnership with various stakeholders, including government, philanthropic organizations, and nonprofits, on multi‐pronged strategies to stabilize the child care industry and provide both short‐ and long‐term access to high‐ quality child care for families, fostering successful two‐generation outcomes. Securing the future of our nation, our children, is a colossal undertaking, and each of us plays a vital role in this mission; this work depends on dedicated supporters like you who understand the profound and lasting benefits of early education higher graduation rates, brighter, more productive futures to raise the alarm and help us create solutions. Your generosity will make a real difference in the lives of countless children and families. Together, we can ensure a brighter, more promising future for our nation. If you would like to support this vital work, please do so here: https://lnkd.in/gVrnEFZ4 With gratitude, Ben Pivar

Back to School is here! 🎒 Education is an essential part of seeing dreams become a reality. And while it may seem simple, for many of the children we care for, having school supplies is a major stepping stone along the way. In fact, in many areas - school supplies are actually required for students to even be allowed to attend school. That’s why this Back to School project is so important ...and it’s one of the first practical steps in helping kids dream big and have all that they need to see those dreams come to life. Through our Back to School project, we’ll be able to provide every child in the communities we serve with the school supplies they need to learn and dream big. When you give $25, your gift will provide one child with a backpack filled with new school supplies, Bible Scriptures, and a message of hope. Ready to inspire dreams and build up the next generation of world changers? Give now at; http://www.xoom.com or http://worldremit.com or http://www.SENDWAVE.COM to; +256759765718
