"Being hospitalized is hard! When I was hospitalized, I kept wondering, ‘Will I get better? Will I get the symptoms under control so I can return to a normal life?’ And while I try not to stress about getting better - because that can make it worse - there is all the added stress of making sure my family, my job, and other responsibilities are all taken care of. It feels like your life is completely out of your control and you just pray that the doctors will know what to do to get you back on track." - Kacy Becker, living with #MyastheniaGravis At Immunovant, we’re pursuing a patient-focused development approach to help advance treatments for those living with MG. Founder, My Healthcare Champion/Board Certified Patient Advocate/Community Educator/Public Speaker, Content Creator
I just read a great article in VerywellHealth publication, written by Dr. Michael Bihari. It talked about how age increases the risk for medication side effects, and went on to explain... "As we age, changes in our body can affect the way medications are absorbed and utilized. We become more sensitive to medications, and we are more likely to experience increased side effects, drug interactions, and other adverse drug reactions. I experienced this first hand, but was completely unaware and it was something I never thought about until it happened to my husband. This is why it is extremely important to know and understand what medications we are taking and why, so we can be able provide this information anytime as needed. There are various reasons why someone may not be able to communicate this important information, for instance if they are not well, don't have the information handy, or simply don't know. They may even be a person living alone, with minimal to no support to help stay on top of their healthcare needs. This happens quite frequently in our senior population, which is truly a driving force in my decision to become a patient advocate. I have a very special place in my heart for seniors, and what I know is this information is extremely crucial and can make a huge difference in health outcomes. Yes, it can be very overwhelming, especially in the face of a health crisis. But fortunately help is available. No one should have to travel this road alone. If you or someone you know needs support to manage your ongoing healthcare needs, don't hesitate to reach out to an independent patient advocate like myself today. Time is of the essence and we will start where we are and do the very best we can. We are honored to stand in the gap and advocate for you! #patientadvocacy #patientsafety #patientoutcomes #patienteducation #patientengagement #patientsfirst #patientcenteredcare #patientsolutions

If I need your help, how do I find you? Seriously...when I was diagnosed with SIBO, EBV, Borrelia, Babesia, Bartonella (yes, think Lyme Disease on crack with multiple tick-borne diseases and co-infections), where do I get help? Luckily, in my case, I was already in a fantastic network of top medical professionals that knew what the general public has a difficult time finding - the right healthcare providers! (I've been in ongoing treatment for years now with late stage diagnosis) Chronic illness and disease wreaks havoc on lives and more often than not, the patient spends time, effort, money going from one doc to the next trying to find the provider that can not only treat them, but understand their needs. It's a sh*t show. Imagine barely functioning and navigating this nightmare. What you should know is even in general healthcare and dentistry, people research websites, read reviews and testimonials, like to see successful case studies and have TONS of options. So, what are you doing about visibility? If you don't have an informative website, social channels sharing knowledge, outreach to other providers and general VISIBILITY, you are relying on what, patient referrals? Sounds ridiculous, but this is what most practices get stuck doing. You are meant to be patient-centric, YES! But, if you are in the business of healthcare to help those that need you, you better get out there and tell us about you and your services! If we can't see you, we don't know you exist. Please do better. And if you need help, reach out. And, thank you for your service. :) #healthcare #medicalprofessionals #healthcarepractioners #businessgrowth #healthcareprofessionals
