Über 500 von der Professur betreute studentische Arbeiten seit Einführung der Bachelor-/Masterstudiengänge: Im Studienjahr 2023/24 hat Professor Böttcher 37 studentische Arbeiten betreut. Seit dem Studienjahr 2009/2010, in dem erstmals Arbeiten der damals neu eingeführten Bachelor-/Masterstudiengänge zu betreuen waren, stieg die Gesamtzahl damit auf 535. Hierzu zählen Masterarbeiten, Bachelorarbeiten sowie Studien-/Projektarbeiten. Die Studierenden kamen aus den Studiengängen Technische Informatik und Kommunikationstechnik, Maschinenbau, Wehrtechnik und Computer Aided Engineering. Durch die starke Orientierung der Professur an der ingenieursmäßigen Praxis in Forschung und Lehre wird Studierenden ein breites Spektrum an interessanten Themen geboten. Insbesondere sind darunter auch immer wieder Arbeiten zu Themen, die Studierende selbst einbringen und dann besonders motiviert angehen. Lehrveranstaltungen selbst wurden durch Professor Böttcher in 2023/24 im Umfang von 50,8 TWS (sog. Trimesterwochenstunden) erbracht. We are now looking for 10 Doctoral Researchers in the field of microelectronics. MIELi is a doctoral school pilot that aims to speed up and improve doctoral education in microelectronics by collaborating with industry and academia. The doctoral school pilot aims at graduation in 3 years with industrially relevant research topics and immediate employment to companies and business after graduation. MIELi involves Finland’s key players in microelectronics research: Tampere University, Aalto University, University of Oulu and VTT. The universities offer the doctoral positions and education, and VTT supports the pilot by offering visiting researcher positions, infrastructures, and guidance. Microelectronics is a constructive and complex research field that requires teamwork, advanced infrastructures and tools, and highly skilled and experienced workforce. The scientific and societal impact of microelectronics is significant, and it is the key enabler for ICT and other sectors, such as healthcare, energy, and transportation. The demand for experts in the field of microelectronics is already very high and growing, and the opportunities in the job market are numerous and versatile. Microelectronics experts can make a real impact on the world by contributing to technologies critical for the future. Microelectronics covers four interdependent technology layers: 1. Materials, process technologies, and devices built on the material science. For example, printed electronics, transistors, MEMS, and standard cell libraries. The scope is on basic building blocks like single transistors. 2. Components and circuits that compose the layer of electronics based on the foundational devices. For example, macros and circuits of thousands of transistors. 3. System-on-Chip and processors. Build on top of previous layer with large and complex constructs like processors and RF Transceivers. The SoC itself can include billion transistors. 4. Applications that essentially require one or more of the other layers to be realized. MIELi offers in total 30 job positions distributed as ten positions for each university (Tampere, Aalto and Oulu). There are several pre-defined topics (referred to as Topic ID) available and possibility to propose student’s own topic. Pre-defined topics are provided by the research groups and supervisors listed with the topic title and description. Carlo ist aktuell einer unserer Werkstudenten bei abaxor. Warum er seine Bachelorarbeit bei uns geschrieben hat und jetzt in unserem Unternehmen arbeitet, erfahrt Ihr in diesem Beitrag von Ihm persönlich: „Hallo, ich heiße Carlo und studiere aktuell an der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg den Masterstudiengang Elektro- und Informationstechnik mit der Vertiefung Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik. Ich interessiere mich für eingebettete Systeme, wie Mikrocontroller und FPGAs, sowie für die digitale Signal- und Datenverarbeitung. Ich möchte hier erzählen warum ich meine Bachelorarbeit bei abaxor geschrieben habe. Die Firma habe ich damals durch das Industriepraktikum im Bachelor kennengelernt, da diese meine Interessen abdeckt und arbeite heute weiterhin als Werksstudent hier. Das Thema meiner Bachelorarbeit war es einen IP-Core (Funktionsblock für einen integrierten Schaltkreis) zu entwerfen, welcher eine 10 Gigabit/s-Ethernet-Anbindung auf einem FPGA ermöglicht. Mit anderen Worten also eine Architektur in reiner Hardware, welche ohne Software und externen Komponenten, wie z.B. RAM oder CPU, funktioniert. Hier wurden einige Untermodule angefertigt, welche zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt in meiner Bachelorarbeit benutzt werden konnten. Für mich war dies ein starker Grund meine Bachelorarbeit hier anzufertigen, da man so direkt in das Thema eingearbeitet war und man dadurch effektiv weiterarbeiten konnte. Ein weiterer Vorteil war es, dass alle benötigten Werkzeuge zum Entwickeln, Messen und Debuggen an einem Ort waren. Die vorhandene Hardware ermöglichte es, verschiedene Szenarien umfassend zu testen. Darüber hinaus konnte ich durch diese Erfahrung die Abläufe in der Industrie und Entwicklung besser kennenlernen, da diese Arbeit sehr Praxis- und Anwendungsbezogen ist. The Southwest Advanced Prototyping (SWAP) Hub, spearheaded by Arizona State University, works with other institutions to drive results. Two professors from The University of New Mexico School of Engineering have been part of the SWAP Hub. UNM is among the 27 hub constituents set to receive a portion of the $39.9 million allocated for the 2023 fiscal year. Over the period until 2027, a total of $2 billion will be directed towards the Microelectronics Commons program, aimed at expediting the domestic hardware prototyping and seamless transition of semiconductor technologies from the laboratory to full-scale production. 👥 Edl Schamiloglu and Christos Christodoulou, distinguished professors in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNM, are joining forces with ASU's SWAP Hub. Their collaboration, backed by several graduate students, will focus on two critical tasks within their areas of expertise: 💡 Calibrating RF Injection Experiments: Edl Schamiloglu brings his extensive knowledge in directed energy and high-power microwaves to advance this area. 💡 Characterizing Effects on Microelectronic Technologies: Christos Christodoulou, renowned for his RF and antennas research, leads the way with his role as director of UNM’s COSMIAC, a space-related research center. The Commons program, with $2 billion in funding through 2027, aims to accelerate domestic hardware prototyping and the transition of semiconductor technologies from the lab to full-scale production. Ingenieurpsychologie macht Spaß. 😎 Dass Studierende Digitalisierung auch einfach umsetzen können, zeigen unsere Drittsemester im Studiengang Ingenieurpsychologie am Hochschulcampus Tuttlingen. Die Aufgabe bestand darin, im Team ein eigenes digitales Produkt in Form einer App oder einer Website zu konzipieren, zu gestalten und zu implementieren. Mit Hilfe von Design-Prototypen entstanden erste Konzeptideen. Eine große Herausforderung war die Umsetzung in einem geeigneten Framework wie Flutter oder JavaScript. Die Seminarteilnehmer entwickelten tolle Ideen und gute Umsetzungskonzepte. Die Bandbreite der Projekte reichte von einer Eventplaner-Website, über eine WG-Tinder-App, einer Länderkoch-App bis hin zu Applikationen im Bereich Tiervermittlung. Die Präsentation der Projekte erfolgte in Form eines Pitches, ähnlich wie in der Fernsehsendung „Die Höhle der Löwen“. Ziel dieses Vortragsstils ist es, das unternehmerische Denken der Teilnehmer anzuregen, anstatt die Zuhörer mit einem akademischen Fachvortrag zu langweilen. Alle Teilnehmer der Veranstaltung Programmieren 2 investierten viel Zeit und Energie in ihre Projekte. Die Betreuung der Projektteams erfolgte durch regelmäßige Kurzpräsentation vor den beteiligten Dozenten Jochen Huber, Stefan Pfeffer, Martina Warmer, Florian Zitz und meiner Person. Erst das Zusammenspiel moderner Methoden aus der Informatik mit den Ideen und Konzepten der Psychologie und des Produktdesigns ermöglicht moderne Mensch-Maschine-Interaktionen.
