A bit of context for current debate on revocation of character cancellations. Under Dutton, these averaged between 200 and 250 pa (then fell sharply during covid). Coalition now implying they want this to fall to zero. That would have some serious consequences including a massive increase in number of people in very long term detention, reduction in cooperation from other nations on related matters (and human consequences which I suspect will be quickly dismissed). A lack of cooperation from receiving nations would lead to a massive increase in people in long term detention (as happened under Dutton). Long term detainees with little prospect of removal will appeal to HC with the obvious consequences. There will be little thought to that given the current hysteria.

If a State can seize the power of the Federal Government to say who can be in the State plus who must carry dead and dying fetus to term at risk to their own life, how long before they grab American citizens who offend other secular and State religious laws to do what they want to them up to the death penalty? Will there be State visas required of everyone going into the State and deportations of America citizens?

Criminal deportations depend on mutual cooperation between nations. A zero tolerance approach to these may sound appealing but will lead to retaliation from other nations. That will increase people in detention but not necessarily the number being deported. And we know what the High Court thinks of indefinite detention.

Everyone needs to see this! The U.S. House has passed the Laken Riley Act with a 251-170 vote. All Republicans voted in favor of it, but what's surprising is that all 170 votes against it were Democrats. The law is designed to require the detention and deportation of illegal immigrants who have been caught committing crimes. It's an important law that could help keep our communities safe, so why would anyone vote against it? Let's raise awareness by sharing this post! #LakenRileyAct #ImmigrationLaw #criminaljustice

"The law, known as SB4, gives Texas law enforcement authorities the power to stop, arrest and jail migrants on new, state-level illegal entry charges. It also allows state judges to issue de facto deportation orders against suspected violators of the law, though it's unclear how this provision could be enforced. The law is set to take effect in March 2024, though that could change depending on the outcome of one or more legal challenges, the first of which was filed just hours after Abbott's ceremony." --- https://lnkd.in/geeey4bV The law, known as SB4, gives Texas law enforcement authorities the power to stop, arrest and jail migrants on new state charges.
