🐞🌱Working in the #MiningIndustry means being acutely aware of the environmental effects of mineral extraction. This is why it is crucial to develop a robust strategy to minimize and limit the impact of our activities on nature. Partnering with the best scientists and experts is key to driving meaningful actions for protecting #biodiversity. 🤝In this framework, #Imerys is delighted to announce that we have renewed our long term partnership with PatriNat (OFB-MNHN-CNRS-IRD), a French national public organization under the joint supervision of the National Museum of Natural History. This partnership has helped us to adopt accurate and efficient methodologies and tools to help preserve ecosystems since 2018! Find out more below⤵️

In 2023 the ShareScreen Africa (SSA) Team facilitated 80 virtual classes, exploring African conservation issues and solutions from the deeps of the ocean and soaring high with mega-eagles and vultures. We also examined the vitally important ecosystems in African soil, as well as geology. Once again, we welcomed guest experts who unlocked the fascinating ecosystems of the African savannah. We also delved into the human mind, attempting to understand and improve our relationship with nature. In this short list of talks, we offer you a small sample of our talks, selecting those presentations that shifted our understanding of conservation. https://lnkd.in/dwdZB2if

In our BAU economy when there is lack of supply and increased demand on a product or service the price goes up to balance supply with demand. Is there one area on the carbon / biodiversity offsets sector that actually is not being gamed for financial, political or marketing purpose? Truly, where are the peer reviewed examples where it works coherently and transparently? How is a price placed on the infinite complexity of natural systems arrived at for the very simple act of burning fossils or clearing land? How do the sums equate when a temporal lens or time factor is applied to the algorithm? Please explain.

Start therapy today and you will be a different person tomorrow... | A simple hypnosis session is the fastest way to find the right direction!
Avoiding the global climate catastrophe has to be SIMPLE. It actually is. We have all seen the planet naturally clean itself once humans stopped interfering. Recently. Just take yourself back to the middle of 2020 when the pandemic stopped production in almost all industrial countries. Clear skies, hardly any pollution. People in China and India could see the mountains previously blanketed by smog. Oh, but we cannot stop these big economies... Well, yes, we can. YOU can - just STOP BUYING products you do not need. Make 2024 the year of "Essentials Only". With every product you need to ask yourself "Do I really need this?" And then, if you do, see if you can find that product on the second-hand market first. Because - there are whole factories making just Christmas decorations. There are whole factories just making disposable cups and cutlery. There are whole factories making just wrapping paper and ribbons. Make 2024 the Year of Essentials Only. If EVERYONE helps then the global warming will stop. We know that, we saw it happen! It is that simple!

The NatureMetrics team has been working with @Anglo American since 2020, supporting them in monitoring biodiversity for over 16 projects, in 11 countries and across multiple stages of the project lifecycle. #eDNA has enabled us to deliver nature intelligence from the early discovery and exploration phases, where knowledge is limited, right through to closing an operation and restoring the environment to better than its pre-mining state. Our Director Maher Mahjoub welcomed today the 1st meeting of IUCN Res123 #policydevelopment Working Group starting in #Malaga". The event is a crucial step towards addressing the challenges posed by #syntheticbiology in the context of #natureconservation and is part of the implementation process of IUCN Resolution WCC 2020 Res 123 “Towards development of an IUCN policy on synthetic biology in relation to nature conservation” (https://lnkd.in/dbceMFiy). The Policy Developing Working Group, appointed on the basis of #IUCN Resolution WCC 2020 Res123, has the important objective of drafting the “IUCN policy on synthetic biology in relation to nature conservation”. This first meeting will produce the first draft of the policy, drawing on the recommendations and deliberations of the citizens’ assembly. IUCN will participate and further discuss about this and other hot topics during the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly UN Environment Programme Headquarters in Nairobi and through a number of side-events focusing on #naturebasedsolutions, #circulareconomy, and #transboundary ecosystem #restoration.

🌊🌍 Harnessing Environmental DNA (EDNA) for Biodiversity Monitoring at Unki Mine 🌍🌊 In 2020, we embarked on an ambitious project to set up a Biodiversity Management Plan at Unki Mine. To ensure the effectiveness of this plan, we needed to accurately identify biodiversity indicators, and for this, we leveraged the innovative Environmental DNA (EDNA) water sampling technique. Here's how EDNA water sampling works: Water Sampling: We collected water samples from various aquatic environments. DNA Extraction: Extracted DNA from these samples, containing genetic material from organisms present. Sequencing: Sequenced the DNA to identify the different species in the water. Data Analysis: Analyzed the data to determine the presence, abundance, and diversity of species. This technique allowed us to monitor key biodiversity indicators such as species richness, composition, abundance, and community structure. The advantages of EDNA water sampling were instrumental to our success: Non-invasive: No harm to organisms. Cost-effective: Reduced sampling effort. High sensitivity: Detection of rare or endangered species. Real-time monitoring: Rapid assessment of biodiversity changes. My contributions to this project included: Leading the water sampling efforts, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the aquatic environments. Overseeing the DNA extraction and sequencing processes, maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency. Conducting data analysis to provide detailed insights into the biodiversity of the ecosystems we studied. Applying my expertise in environmental science to interpret the results and inform our Biodiversity Management Plan. The use of EDNA water sampling enabled us to effectively monitor aquatic ecosystems, detect invasive species, and track the impact of climate change on biodiversity. Our knowledge and application of this cutting-edge technique were crucial in the development and implementation of a robust Biodiversity Management Plan at Unki. This project not only highlighted the importance of innovative techniques in environmental conservation but also demonstrated the value of scientific knowledge in practical applications. 🌱🔬 #Biodiversity #EDNA #EnvironmentalScience #Sustainability #Innovation #Conservation #AquaticEcosystems #ClimateChange #UnkiMine #EnvironmentalManagement #Leadership #ScientificResearch

Get funding to help implement training programs for taxonomic research. DEADLINE September 30th, 2023. We have 7 specific topics we need help with. Topic 6 ask for help implement training programs in taxonomy. Specifically for soil fauna, fresh water invertebrates and pollinators. the focus areas are biodiversity hotspots (nature 2000 areas and the Mediterranean Basin). 🐝🦋 Apply for up to €200,000 to help. Multiple projects will receive grants. We very much encourage you to apply. There is a high likelihood of proposals receiving a grant if the application matches our criteria. The #TETTRIsEU consortium cannot receive funding. Submit your proposal here https://lnkd.in/eJBAauPq If you have any questions, do not hesitate to talk to us. Send a message to administrator.tettris@catalyze-group.com. TETTRIs exists to transform #taxonomy in Europe. We need to work together with taxonomists to achieve our goals. #biodiversity #funding #eu
