Multi-family residential architecture has been one of IMC's main markets since our firm was established in 2015. 618 Monroe Street in Brooklyn is an example of an enjoyable smaller scale work that allowed our team to focus on subtle details, with an understated facade that merges the brick and stucco vocabulary of nearby buildings, both traditional brownstones and more contemporary recent developments. The new building stands out from the other residential structures on the block due to its intentional slight asymmetries. The $3 million, 12,000sf, four-story property houses 10 units. This is the front elevation of a residential building, designed by our office anod architecture at Polygono hill, Athens Small dimensions of the plot set from the beginning an interesting challenge during the design process. Natural light enters in the spaces only from the narrow front – North elevation – of Geranion street, with a width of 8.00m and the back –South elevation– of corresponding width, with unobstructed views towards the Saronic Gulf. The absence of balconies on the North elevation was a synthetic decision. This is in contrast to the small balconies that are usually present in older buildings in the narrow streets of Athens. While the unparalleled view from the South elevation towards the Saronic, led us to design large openings and balconies. Rosepark Towns- Post number 2- Transitional Architecture This development sits in the middle of a neighborhood, which is quite different when a higher density design is introduced at the edge of a neighborhood or within a higher density designation. Therefore, extra attention had to be given to the architecture to make sure that the result did not clash with the surrounding context, or would look out of place. The intention behind the design of this development was to create an architecture which was transitional.  A contemporary concept which also pays tribute to the traditional architecture prevalent in the area. Red brick was chosen as the main building element to harmonize with the red brick that is existing in the neighborhood. Sloped roofs were introduced again to pay tribute to the existing roof styles in the area. French style windows were also considered for the same reason. These were the main traditional elements. Now to introduce contemporary elements, the roof material was upgraded to standing seam metal roof, versus regular shingles. The windows were made bigger, to increase the ratio of openings to solid walls. The window mullions are colored black to differ from the traditional white mullions in the area. Wood patterned cladding is also introduced in the recessed areas above the doors, which vertically break the horizontal continuity of brick.

Conceptually, millwork volumes - rather than conventional partitions - read as floating objects while delineating the different spaces. This helps stretch the perception of space to the apartment’s perimeter walls. The living and bedroom spaces flow into one another, and when privacy is needed, hidden pocket doors recessed in the pantry volume can be closed.
