Ahead of the #HRC56th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, we join other civil society groups in calling for a strong resolution on #Eritrea. "Resolutions on Eritrea should fully and accurately reflect the country’s human rights situation. They should provide a framework for discussion about human rights in Eritrea, including the domestic situation and its impact abroad. This includes the severe and far-reaching effects on the diaspora, who often face extraterritorial attacks. These measures are aimed at maintaining control over Eritreans and people of Eritrean origin living abroad, silencing dissent, and discouraging any criticism against the regime. Deep insights and thought-provoking conversations at the on going Civil Society Forum where all who matter in the civic space are gathered on the theme "reflections on the conceptual and developmental issues of CSOs in Ghana and the sustainability challenge." 1. Some change and movement building is organic and participant-led, you can't "log frame it" but go with the flow and leverage. 2. Sometimes we fuzz too much about "constituency" and zero that to numbers, don't get fixated on that but rather whom are you impacting, how consistent are you and what do do you stand? 3. To thrive and impact CSOs should embody a 4-pronged-axis- 1. Agility, 2. Responsibility, 3. Actionality and 4. Transformativeness. 🌍🕊️✨𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐝𝐚𝐧!✨🕊️🌍 The United Nations 54th Session of the Human Rights Council has just taken a significant step towards addressing the ongoing human rights and humanitarian crisis in Sudan. In a resolution passed with a vote of 19 in favour, 16 against, and 12 abstentions, the Council has decided to urgently establish an independent international fact-finding mission for Sudan. 🤝🇸🇩 This mission will be tasked with investigating and uncovering the facts, circumstances, and root causes of all alleged human rights and international humanitarian law violations that have taken place in the context of the conflict which commenced on April 15, 2023. The conflict involves the Sudanese Armed Forces, the Rapid Support Forces, and other warring parties. We hope this step will lead to establish a basis for ending the conflict and achieving peace in Sudan. ------- #HumanRights #Sudan #UnitedNations #Peace #Justice #GICJ #Geneva4Justice #GenevaInternationalCentreforJustice

Strengthening Global Accountability for Lasting Peace “Since the outbreak of the conflict in Yemen, it has become clear that the national justice system lacks the capacity and willingness to investigate human rights violations and deliver justice, especially for marginalized groups and victims of the conflict. It is crucial to strengthen international accountability mechanisms and uphold human rights to ensure lasting peace.” Akram Alshwafi, Director, Watch for Human Rights #العدالة_من_أجل_اليمن #حقوق_الإنسان #UPR2024 #UPR #Justice4Yemen #HumanRights #UPR2024 #UPR

At the start of the new democracy, the Day of Reconciliation was adopted as it was envisioned that reconciliation, peace and stability would be the defining characteristics of this new dispensation. Each year we have an opportunity to reach out to one another to deal with our past, reconcile our differences, and focus on building a new nation. With the world in turmoil, it is an opportunity to once again focus on how their is unity in our diversity. On what brings us together as opposed to that which sets us apart. #DayofReconciliation #SouthAfrica

Within the framework of the project “Strengthen Iraqi civil society organisations and rule of law as a peacebuilding tool in Iraq III”, an extraordinary hybrid meeting held on Sunday, July 14, 2024, for a number of members of the network with the leader experts of the project to discuss a number of emerging issues in human rights fields in Iraq, and to enhance the participation of civil society organizations in tackling them and seek justice to the victims. Our discussions were profound and impactful. We focused on enhancing the role of civil society organizations in addressing human rights challenges and advocating for justice for victims. Key topics included: 🔹 Emerging Human Rights Issues: We identified critical areas where immediate attention is needed. 🔹 United Nations Experts' Statement (June 27, 2024): We deliberated on the recent UN statement addressing arbitrary executions in Iraq. Participants shared valuable insights on how to continue our campaign to urge Iraqi authorities to abolish the death penalty. We emphasized the necessity for strict adherence to international human rights standards, ensuring fair trials, especially in death penalty cases. The collaboration and dedication of everyone involved are truly inspiring. Together, we are making strides towards a more just and peaceful Iraq. Supported by ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) and Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany, implemented by Mercy Hands and Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ). #UN #UNDP #UNHCR #UNICEF #USAID #Iraq #HumanRights #JusticeForVictims #JusticeForAll #EndExecutions #RuleOfLaw #StrongerTogether #Solidarity #HumanRights #HumanDignity #MercyHandsEurope #MercyHandsOrganization #GenevaInternationalCentreForJustice #GICJ #InstitutFürAuslandsbeziehungen

United States of Crims

Only a few hours after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled against apartheid israel in the case of genocide brought before it by South Africa, the Biden Administration has cut off funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which was founded in 1949 and created specifically to support the relief and human development of Palestinian refugees. 🌍 Reflecting on Our Actions: The Recent Attack on Rafah 🌍 The recent attack on the Rafah tent camp, which resulted in the tragic loss of 40 innocent lives, including women and children, raises critical questions about the message we are sending to the world and future generations. This incident, targeting a designated safe zone for Palestinians, not only violates international law but also sets a dangerous precedent. What does it say about our commitment to human rights and humanitarian principles? How are we shaping the values and ethics of the next generation when such actions go unchecked? Enough is enough. We must consider the logical implications of our silence and inaction: Future Generations: Allowing such atrocities to persist teaches future generations that violence against the vulnerable is acceptable. This is not the legacy we should leave behind. Rule of Law: Ignoring international laws and humanitarian principles erodes the foundation of global governance and accountability. The international community must take decisive action: Sanctions: Implement targeted sanctions to hold accountable those responsible for these actions. Justice: Support legal frameworks that ensure perpetrators face consequences under international law. Humanitarian Aid: Facilitate and protect the delivery of essential aid to affected areas. We must advocate for a future in which peace and justice prevail and the rights and lives of all individuals are respected and protected. #HumanRights #GlobalAccountability #StandWithPalestine #EndViolence #JusticeForRafah
