The new #IENEstudy, entitled “Energy Trends 2023-2024”, provides comprehensive information and data on the emerging trends in the European and mainly in the Greek energy market for 2023 and the first quarter of 2024. More specifically, the changes in #electricity, #naturalgas and #oilprices at the level of #Europe and #Greece, the changes in total energy demand, as well as in the demand for electricity, natural gas, oil and #petroleum products, will be covered in this specific study. At the same time, imports and exports, mainly of electricity and natural gas, as well as the fuel mix in power generation, are some of the energy parameters that will be analyzed. From the first edition of the new series of IENE studies on the trends of the Greek energy market, important and useful information can be concluded for the period 2023-2024, such as the steep decline in electricity and natural gas prices in Europe and Greece, the decrease in the total energy demand, and electricity and natural gas demand in particular, the decline in electricity exports and the increase in electricity imports in Greece. Also, natural gas imports to Greece decreased, but Russian natural gas imports through Sidirokastro entry point and LNG increased, while fuel prices in Greece continue to be among the highest in Europe, despite the decline in international oil prices. At the same time, further problems are expected in the electricity grid within 2024, due to the oversupply of RES and the saturated electricity system. Therefore, discussions will come to the fore between the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Waste and Water (RAEEY), #MinistryoftheEnvironmentandEnergy and the IPTO-Independent Power Transmission Operator on the issue of compensation for self-producers, as the quantities of rejected energy will increase. Greek-Turkish Energy Relations have entered a new phase following the successful #1stGreekTurkishEnergyForum which was convened by #IENE and was successfully held in Istanbul on April 25, 2024. Following consultations between the steering committee and participants the Conclusions and Recommendations of the Forum have now been finalised and can be seen here https://lnkd.in/dvbfkcMD IENE proposes a series of specific actions aiming at the further improvement and cooperation between #Greece and #Turkey in the #energysector. The setting up of a joint working group under the auspices of the Institute which will meet twice a year is one such action, as well as the preparation of a detailed report where actual projects involving participation from Greek and Turkish companies and experts can be identified. Furthermore, the organisation of the Greek-Turkish Energy Forum on a regular basis, say once every two years, is seen as yet another step which will enhance Greek-Turkish energy cooperation. The IENE Research Team has just completed a timely study concerning "The Role of #GreenBonds in #financingrenewables and #lowcarbonprojects in #SEEurope" (https://lnkd.in/dS7QdEWM) The study points out that the use of #ESGcriteria is becoming more and more relevant for project investment worldwide, highlighting the role of green bonds. In addition, the IENE study focusses on the important role of green finance in enhancing #greenenergysolutions, especially in the countries of SE Europe, while it attempts to predict the outlook and challenges of green finance in volatile economic conditions. The alignment of sovereign green bond markets with the energy transition is discussed thoroughly in latest IENE study, providing a detailed overview of the global sovereign green bond market. Moreover, the role of exchanges in accelerating the growth of the green bond market is also emphasized. As of January 2021, #IENE became the #firstorganisation in #Greece and #SEEurope to be #grantedApprovedVerifierstatus under the #ClimateBondStandard. The latest #SEEuropeEnergyDialogue, now in its 15th edition, which took place in Thessaloniki last week (June19/20) provided an excellent opportunity for the network of partners and associates of the Institute of Energy for SE Europe (#IENE) to get together, in person or online, and engage in a fruitful discussion and exchange of views on several challenging energy and environmental issues which our part of the world now faces. This tight knit group of partners and associates in SE Europe and beyond which the IENE has painstakingly put together over the last decade or so, has developed into a first class colloquium which focuses on the challenging environmental and energy issues which confront our region.Last week most of these partners came together during the annual SEE Energy Dialogue. This year Partners and Associates came from #Bulgaria, #Romania, #Serbia, #Montenegro, #Albania, #Turkey, #Israel, #Cyprus, the #UK and #Greece while senior executives from a number of regional and international bodies also participated representing the Energy Community, European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC), FuelsEurope and Concawe, the New Nuclear Watch Institute (NNWI) and UNICEN. #Energysecurity, #geopolitics and #energytransition were the subjects which dominated this one and a half day high level meeting which also included an #AmbassadorsForum, while Greece’ Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy delivered one of the keynote addresses.
