📣 The latest research paper, "#NEAT-#MUSIC: Auto-calibration of #DOA Estimation for #Terahertz-Band Massive MIMO Systems", has been accepted for publication in IEEE #Wireless #Communication Letters. 🎯 The abundant bandwidths and very narrow beamwidths of #THz #mMIMO systems are instrumental in achieving milli-degree accuracy in direction-of-arrival (#DOA) estimation, a key enabler of high resolution sensing and imaging applications. Accordingly, this paper delves into the challenges of #DOA estimation within #THz systems, confronting two predominant sources of error head-on: 1️⃣ #gain-#phase #mismatches; occuring because of the deviations in the radio-frequency circuitry. 2️⃣ #beam-#squint; caused by the deviations in the generated beams at different subcarriers with ultra-wide bandwidths. 💡We introduce a robust auto-calibration technique, #NEAT-#MUSIC (NoisE subspAce correcTion technique for MUltiple SIgnal Classification), designed to refine noise subspace and enable precise DOA estimations, thereby overcoming the detriments of gain-phase mismatches and beam-squints. To gauge the performance of the proposed approach, the Cramer-Rao bounds (#CRB) are also derived to provide a theoretical benchmark. 📈 Numerical simulations demonstrate that #NEAT-#MUSIC algorithm consistently aligns with the #CRB, showcasing a milli-degree Root Mean Square Error (#RMSE) discrepancy, even when applied to subcarriers with bandwidths as wide as 30 GHz. 👨🔬 Ahmet M. We're excited to share a significant leap forward in antenna technology with the creation of a new Dual-Band Micro-Strip Patch Antenna designed for electromagnetic nano-communications in the terahertz (THz) spectrum. The inventors Dr Dr. Manjula Raja from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and her PhD Scholar, Mr Bhagwati Sharan, have published a patent recently. The design includes a ground plane made of copper, topped with a Roger RT6010 LM substrate and a gold patch. This dual-band nano-antenna stands out not only for its improved gain and bandwidth but also for its impressive biocompatibility in the THz regime—a rarity in current technologies. The antenna's dual resonating frequencies make it an excellent tool for: 👉 Wireless Communications 👉 Biomedical Applications 👉 THz Imaging and Sensing 👉 Radar and Short-Range Communication With gains of 2.66 dBi and 6.76 dBi and satisfactory impedance matching (return loss < -20 dB), this antenna is set to revolutionise fields that rely on precise and reliable short-range communication. My work has been published in IEEE Xplore. Abstract: Modern technology requires high data transmission for wireless communication. 6G (sixth generation wireless) is the next generation of wireless technology, following 5G. 6G networks will be able to operate at higher frequencies than 5G networks, resulting in dramatically improved capacity and lower latency. One of the goals of the 6G internet is to allow communications with a latency of one microsecond. A patch antenna is a good choice for its tiny size and configurable frequency. Patch antennas are now popular for use in medical devices, Wi-Fi routers, mobile phones, spacecraft, and aircraft. In this paper, a novel material, Graphene based 6G antenna is proposed for THz applications. This paper proposes a triangular patch antenna for THz applications where Copper is used as ground, Rogers is used at the substrate as an insulator, and graphene is used at the patch as a conductor. The dimension of the antenna is (23×18×1.6)μm. The performance of the proposed antenna is analyzed using CST simulation software. Based on the simulation results, The return loss of the antenna is found -95.71 dB at the 6.82 THz resonant frequency, and the VSWR of the antenna is 1.00. The Far-Field directivity of the antenna is 5.076 dBi. Therefore, the proposed antenna is suitable for aerospace applications. Exciting News! Our latest paper, entitled "Simultaneous Lightwave Information and Power Transfer in 6G Networks", co-authored with Vasilis Papanikolaou, Sotiris Tegos, Panagiotis Diamantoulakis, Himal A. Suraweera, Mohammad-Ali Khalighi, and George Karagiannidis, has been accepted for publication in IEEE Communications Magazine! In this paper, we investigate simultaneous lightwave information and power transfer (SLIPT) as a potential technology to help achieve the sustainability goals of 6G by discussing SLIPT transceiver architectures, optical beam propagation, and fundamental design trade-offs. We also categorize the applications of SLIPT with respect to range, from very short to long-range considering indoor, underwater, and aerial scenarios and present its synergy with other popular technologies that are envisioned for use in 6G networks, e.g., artificial intelligence, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, and quantum communications. How have we progressed in terms of the technology behind Antennas we use in our devices? The oldest antenna types date back to the early days of radio communication. Here are a few: Dipole Antenna: One of the simplest forms of antenna, consisting of two conductive elements (usually wires) oriented in a straight line and connected to a radio transmitter or receiver. It was invented by German physicist Heinrich Hertz in the late 19th century and played a significant role in the early development of radio technology. Loop Antenna: This type of antenna forms a closed loop of conductor, often in the shape of a circle or rectangle. It was also among the earliest antenna designs and is still widely used today, particularly in compact radio devices. Yagi-Uda Antenna: Invented in the 1920s by Japanese engineers Hidetsugu Yagi and Shintaro Uda, this directional antenna consists of a driven element (usually a dipole) and additional parasitic elements (usually rods) arranged in a specific configuration. It's commonly used for TV reception and amateur radio. As for the latest antenna types, advancements in technology have led to the development of various novel designs with improved performance and capabilities: Metamaterial Antennas: These antennas are made from artificially engineered materials with properties not found in naturally occurring substances. Metamaterials can manipulate electromagnetic waves in unique ways, allowing for antennas with properties like increased bandwidth, reduced size, and improved efficiency. Phased Array Antennas: Phased array antennas use multiple antenna elements to steer the direction of the transmitted or received signal electronically, rather than physically repositioning the antenna. They offer advantages such as rapid beam steering, improved signal tracking, and reduced interference. Fractal Antennas: Fractal antennas are based on fractal geometry, which involves repeating patterns at different scales. They can be more compact than traditional antenna designs while maintaining or even improving performance. Fractal antennas are used in various applications, including wireless communication and RFID systems. These are just a few examples of both old and new antenna types, showcasing the evolution of antenna technology over time. #Antennas #Technology

To support high throughput and massive connectivity, next-generation mobile networks are expected to utilize extremely large-scale antenna arrays. This would result in wireless communications occurring in the near-field region. Leveraging the unique channel characteristics of near-field propagation presents both opportunities and challenges, hence we critically appraise #near-#field #communications (#NFC). The authors commence by determining the boundary that distinguishes NFC and conventional far-field communications. Furthermore, some of the key challenges of NFC, including its spherical wavefront-based channel modeling and channel estimation, near-field beamfocusing, hardware design as well as wireless sensing are covered based on a comprehensive survey of existing progress. Two case studies demonstrate the potential of NFC in improving the spatial multiplexing gain and positioning accuracy in the near field. 📡 Excited to share my research paper on array antennas for 5G mm-Wave applications! 🌐 🔍 Title: "Slotted 1×2 Array Antenna With Defective Ground Plane For 5G Millimeter Wave Applications" 📝 Abstract: Our paper explores the utilization of array antennas for 5G mm-Wave applications, showcasing a novel design of a microstrip array antenna. With a structure optimized for wide bandwidth (21.4 to 27.3 GHz), high directivity, and compact size, our antenna promises enhanced performance crucial for next-gen wireless networks. 🔬 Methodology: We detail the design process, which involves stepwise modifications to achieve desired resonance frequencies and bandwidth. Using CST software, we conducted parametric analyses to fine-tune antenna dimensions for optimal performance. 💡 Key Findings: - Resonating frequency range: 21.4 to 27.3 GHz - Central frequency: 24.35 GHz - Impedance bandwidth: 24.23% - Wide bandwidth: 5.9 GHz - Maximum gain: 5.19 dB 📊 Results and Discussion: Our antenna demonstrates exceptional performance, as evidenced by S11 parameter analysis, current distribution patterns, 3D gain patterns, and radiation patterns. These findings validate the efficacy of our design in achieving high gain, compact size, and wide bandwidth for 5G mm-Wave applications. 🌐 Conclusion: The proposed array antenna offers a promising solution for enhancing 5G connectivity, with its compact size, wide bandwidth, and high gain capabilities.
