My advice would be to start looking for new opportunities while still employed. This way, she can explore potential new roles without the immediate pressure of needing to accept the first offer that comes along. One of my friend Priya is a skilled Product Manager at Well- known Company who loves her job and is passionate about creating impactful products. I just read a heartfelt letter from a colleague on LinkedIn. He discussed the challenges of finding a new job after widespread layoffs and his determination to continue exploring new opportunities. Career transitions and layoffs can be incredibly challenging times. It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the uncertainty and the pressure to quickly find a new job. However, it is during these times of upheaval that self-love becomes more important than ever. Self-love is not just about treating yourself kindly, but also about honoring your body, your energy, and your passions. It's about giving yourself permission to explore possibilities outside of your job search. And believe it or not, this could be your way out of the competition and towards a more fulfilling career. Here are a few practices that can inspire you to find grace during these challenging times: 1. Mindfulness: Stay present and avoid worrying about the future or dwelling on the past. Practice meditation or yoga to help center yourself. 2. Nurture Your Body: Exercise regularly, eat healthily, and ensure you get enough sleep. ** 𝐺𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑙𝑒 𝑐𝑙𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑎𝑛𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑔𝑜𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑓𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑖𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑡 (𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑚𝑒!) - 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑎 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑚𝑜𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛, 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑎 𝑛𝑒𝑤 𝑟𝑜𝑙𝑒 🙈 ** Unbelievably so, this latest promotion did not bring “joy” (and that puzzled me to no end). This is entirely attributable to the kind of year 2023 has been - starting off with my favourite company having to announce layoffs, a prolonged period of uncertainty interspersed with difficult times at home (incl. the dreaded carcinoma) and loss of friends. A lot of these were eye-openers w.r.t 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒍𝒚 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.  Please don’t get me wrong - I am 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 and 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝 - Eternally grateful for having a job, a job I love, during these times; for the faith my leadership has placed in me and for the love my teams have shown me; for the nurturing from all my mentors and sponsors over the years; and most of all for my family, esp. my mother who keeps me fed (yes, that’s key to survival!), grounded and rightly motivated - Relieved to be here; to see the hard work pay off (which brings me back to gratitude) Just 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝. We, as humans, always tend to share positive tidings. I have been no different, but the #mentalhealth advocate in me pushed me to share when I may not be feeling top-of-the-world too. As such, this post is an 𝑒𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 (obviously, also an attempt to clear up the confusion a LinkedIn feature I wasn't au courant with may have caused) - please accept my sincere apology if it doesn’t sit well with any of you. Sending this out for anyone who is experiencing similar puzzling feelings. Hang in there, my friend - you’re doing great! And in the meantime, I continue being super thankful and praying for everyone’s wellbeing. 🙂

I needed the space to heal. If you’re new here (welcome 👋🏾), I was laid off last September. The layoff left me with mixed feelings—mostly anger, relief, fear, and excitement. I was angry and fearful because I felt like I was dumped and lost six figures overnight. Yet, I also felt relieved and excited because I knew that I wanted to coach and felt like the layoff was the catalyst to do it. But it took months for me to work through all of my feelings and release the bitterness. What helped me heal? ▪️ Leaning into my faith + community ▪️ Allowing myself to feel how I WANTED to feel and working through that. 👉🏾 I did give myself a time limit to feel pitiful 😭 ▪️ Finding myself outside of my career ▪️ Learning how to be grateful ▪️ NOT answering my phone or DMs when I was not in the right headspace. 👉🏾 I always returned the calls after 🤍 ▪️ NOT taking on clients immediately ▪️ NOT posting on LinkedIn or IG when I didn’t feel like it 🤷🏾♀️ ▪️ Sharing my feelings on LinkedIn 👉🏾 I wrote a few chapters outlining my layoff journey. For me, healing was learning how to think and perceive things differently! So much has happened since my last chapter (Ch. 3 Stewardship). If you are still reading this—things WILL get better for you. Have you given yourself the space to heal?

As my Linkedin newfeed fills up with feelings of heartbreak and loss over the news of Convoy Inc, I decided to join in. Not because I want to take the spotlight away from all those who were impacted abruptly with the shut down - their pain is very real. Instead, I want to share how special the relationships that were made meant to me, and make connections to those who will be looking for work. I joined Convoy with a mindset of #nonewfriends - I wanted to keep it separate. I was lucky to have made so many wonderful connections at Facebook then Lyft, that I wanted to keep Convoy as a place for 'just work'. I failed - miserably. The number of people I would love to work with again, let alone still keep in touch with on a personal level, is borderline unfair really. I've never experienced so much cross-functional bonding (People Team to Finance to Legal to IT to Engineering to... all of it). There is respect for one another's quality of work, but also a desire to keep in touch and share continued memories. We may not all be rock star players, but I would be lucky to work with a large percentage of folks again. That being said, I'm serious about helping. This is not an empty "ping me if you need anything."
