At Vector Institute's #Remarkable2024 events last week we heard perspectives that are shaping our Country's approach to #AI and truly thought-leading in terms of how Canada needs to "ACT NOW" to maintain its advantage. What do I mean? Our Board Chair, Ed Clark (Former CEO TD Bank) described how Canada is a leader in #AI but that there is still work to be done, especially as other countries race to catch up with Canada amid the emergence of generative AI and our President and CEO, Tony Gaffney laid out that Canada needs to “continue to seek out and attract talent... support that talent, and refresh our national strategy with a clear focus on prioritizing AI compute and national datasets,” arguing that if our country cannot provide researchers with what they need, they WILL NOT come here. Key players like Anthropic and Lightmatter dominated, showcasing America's pioneering role in AI technologies. 🌍 But it's not just the U.S. making waves! Across the globe, countries are significantly boosting their AI investments. As per the latest data, Sweden has shown an extraordinary surge, with a 2310% increase in AI investments over the past five years! 🇸🇪 🇸🇬 Singapore, on the other hand, is strategically maximizing its economic output, leading the charge with $15.01 spent on AI for every thousand dollars of GDP—16 % more than the U.S. This underscores Singapore's focused approach to integrating AI within its economic frameworks. 🇮🇱 Israel stands out with its dynamic tech ecosystem, firmly positioning itself as a leader in AI development. The country has attracted $11 billion in private investment from 2013-2022, ranking it fourth globally.
