There is SO MUCH East Africa has to teach us about sustainability and sustainability entrepreneurship. I am on Kenya‘s national TV on the 1PM news discussing just that today. Producer told me to wear bold colours as they ‚pop‘ on TV so who am I to deny that wish. Some detailed examples: 1. two young entrepreneurs have found a way to turn pineapple waste into clothing 2. sustainable farming initiatives. The combination of #innovation, local expertise, and sustainable practices has the power to transform industries. This principle was illustrated by our recent initiative, the “Seeds for Sustainable Energy” Open Innovation bootcamp in #Kenya in collaboration with #Joule, our school of entrepreneurship. We take great pride in identifying and supporting promising agri-tech start-ups. Our aim is not only to optimize agricultural yields but also foster local innovation, and positively impact Kenya’s agri-business ecosystem. #SFSE2023

It's about a week since Global Entrepreneurship Network Australia (#GEC2023 Host), where over 2000 people from more than 120 countries got together in #Melbourne to share their take on how we continue building capacity for entrepreneurship across the world. Policymakers, investors, service providers, universities, startups and ecosystem builders put together an exceptional programme of panels, talks and workshops under the coordination of Chad Renando and his excellent team. I had the pleasure of running a panel discussion with Maxie Juang and J. Matthew Pryor around the future of AgTech innovation, and I wanted to share a few thoughts that this has sparked. The need for innovation in the Agri-food sector is stronger than ever, with projected increases in food demand exceeding 60% by 2050, in an industry grappling with decarbonisation and transitioning to more sustainable practices. Today, agriculture accounts for about 20% of global GHG emissions, 30% of energy use and 70% of water extraction. During the panel, we stared by discussing the central role of #entrepreneurialism in the #Agri sector, and how #innovation can come from within established organisations as well as from startups and ventures. From here, we discussed the role of government and policymakers in fostering Agri-innovation and entrepreneurialism, and the importance of geography in sector innovation. PRESS RELEASE! 2023 Kiribati Greenpreneurs Graduates awarded AUD $166,000 by GGGI [Tarawa, Kiribati, 1st December 2023] – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) hosted a graduation ceremony for i-Kiribati participants of the Pacific Greenpreneurs Incubator and Accelerator Programs today at its 2023 Graduation Ceremony held at Kaiga Maneaba. The Pacific Greenpreneurs Incubator and Accelerator Programs are initiatives of the Pacific Green Entrepreneurs Network (PGEN), a program implemented by GGGI since 2021 and funded by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), which is dedicated to fostering green; sustainable, and innovative business solutions in the Pacific region.  Representing GGGI’s partner, the Kiribati Institute of Technology, Director Mr. Jason Flello shared his reflections as chief guest at the event, “Today marks a momentous occasion as we gather to celebrate the achievements of those before us who have successfully completed this stage of their learning journey.” Mr. Flello also added, “As we stand here, we are witnessing the culmination of a shared vision for a world where innovation, entrepreneurship, and environmental consciousness converge. It is truly heartening to see so many bright minds committed to forging a path towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.”  Ms. Ruth M. Cross, the country Program Coordinator and Board member of Kindling Kiribati delivered the opening remarks. She said, “This program is not just about acquiring skills and knowledge. It’s also about fostering a sense of community and collaboration among our entrepreneurs. We hope that the bonds forged here, and the connections will be catalysts for future partnerships and collaborations that will undoubtedly contribute to the growth of businesses in Kiribati.” Six incubator and three accelerator graduates for the 2023 cohort were commended for successfully completing their respective programs and received certificates in recognition of their diligent hard work.
