🌟 From Concept to Impact with DTU's X-tech 🚀 Every groundbreaking advance begins with an idea. Realizing that idea into a product that serves customers requires more than just a vision; it demands a collective effort from a team of people who are eager to explore uncharted territories. This is the essence of disruptive innovation, where the journey is filled with both obstacles and opportunities. And that is the beauty of DTU X-Tech, where the spark of entrepreneurship meets engineering. We joined the course as project proposers and were fortunate enough to get an amazing team of passionate students eager to work beside us towards the transformation of the healthcare system, increasing the efficiency of medical resources and enhancing patient’s quality of life. As we lay the foundation for our project's growth, embracing the diverse talents and insights of new team members becomes crucial. And this is just the opening chapter. Congratulations to our University Hospitals Ventures team for the work they do to promote a culture of #innovation within University Hospitals. Becker's Healthcare recently honored UH among top health systems for our forward-thinking innovation program, stating those honored "are able to remain on the leading-edge of the changing healthcare landscape...having created programs, institutions and initiatives solely dedicated to furthering research, discovery and innovation." Specifically, they lauded UH for creating UH Ventures "to identify, develop, and deploy creative innovations that drive definitive, sustainable and scalable value within healthcare. UH Ventures boasts over 400 invention disclosures, more than 500 patents, 60-plus licenses, over 40 outside-in collaborations, and an 18-company portfolio. Internally, UH Ventures hosts innovation days, where departments generate ideas in a collaborative environment. There is also an annual UH Ventures Call for Innovations, which asks all UH caregivers to submit both their problem statements and proposed solutions. UH Ventures also forges relationships between early stage companies and UH caregivers to launch trials and pilots as well as de-risk new products. In 2023, University Hospitals launched the Veale Initiative for Health Care Innovation with the aim of piloting groundbreaking innovations and technology. University Hospitals was honored by Fortune as one of 'America’s Most Innovative Companies' and the No. 1 health system for innovation culture within Ohio in 2023."  #healthcareinnovation

🔬 Reflecting on the nearly two-year Health Technology Research Accelerator initiated by SmartCap, which concluded in October. University of Tartu, TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology, Sparkup Tartu Science Park and Tehnopol HealthTech joined forces in 2022-2023 to: 👉 Accelerate the development of Estonian health tech start-ups 👉 Compose strategic document for advancing the Estonian health tech start-up ecosystem 14 companies went through the accelerator program, including Gearbox Biosciences, ÄIO, Raw Edge, Vectiopep, among others. Many have significantly progressed their products or services and successfully attracted the necessary capital for further development. In the pursuit of groundbreaking #innovation from Lab to Market, there exists a thing called "Valley of Death". Valley of death is a critical phase that lies between initial development and commercialization, where a project is technically feasible but has not yet proven profitable or has attracted enough investment to cover high product development costs and move towards market readiness. This is the phase where many promising innovations perish. Here are few of common challenges in the Valley of death. 1. Funding Gap: This is when a project is too developed for basic research grants but too risky for private investors. 2.Market Fit and Validation: Demonstrating a robust demand for the innovation in a real-world setting, beyond theoretical application. 3. Scaling up: Transitioning from a prototype or small-scale process to mass production, which often requires significant capital and operational adjustments. There are possible strategies to overcome valley of death. 👉 Strategic partnership and collaboration with industry partners. This can provide not only funds, but also insights and pathways to commercialization. 👉 Proof of concept funding through grants to support the transition from research to market readiness. 👉Applying #Agile Principle, such as building MVPs and engaging in rapid iterative development can help refine the product market fit and reduce burn rates. 👉 Leveraging #TechTransfer Offices in Universities can provide access to resources, including patent assistance, market analysis, and potential industry connections. Kitea Health awarded Trailblazer Arohia grant from Callaghan Innovation to drive its innovation program. Developing any deep tech company needs a serious investment in R&D, time, and team. You don’t know what you don’t know and we can all fall into the trap of thinking we are doing things that no one has ever done before. While this is often true for one’s product/service it sure helps to draw on the ecosystem of other MedTech companies. New Zealand’s MedTech scene is advancing rapidly and Kitea Health is really pleased to be awarded a major non-diluting investment through the Trailblazer Ārohia grant.
