In 2023, we invested in 7 impactful investments, launched 3 new pilots, and completed 30 post-investment support engagements. Our portfolio raised $59 million in co-investment and follow-on funding and reached 5 million customers with meaningful products and services, including 2.2 million women and smallholder farmers. Our investments not only pushed the boundaries of innovation, but also expanded into new frontiers such as e-mobility, internet connectivity, and aquaculture. Big news for us at World Fund: we have co-led a €40m growth round in mycoprotein producer ENOUGH. From origins in Scotland and now firmly rooted in the Netherlands - just like myself - ENOUGH’s mycoprotein-focussed approach to plant-based will help the industry scale. It will also help the plant-based sector become more affordable for consumers and, most importantly, produce food that tastes great. The company is tackling crucial bottlenecks in the creation of sustainable protein whilst using fewer resources and maintaining a zero-waste process, which is enabling ENOUGH to have a lower carbon footprint compared to other plant-based protein sources whilst producing at scale and providing supply security to a growing market We are thrilled to join their mission and look forward to working with Jim, Elaine, Andrew and the team. Nestlé has today announced an investment in the Ocean 14 Capital Fund I, which focuses on driving a sustainable and regenerative 'blue economy' - a sector that uses ocean resources for economic growth and preservation. This investment is aligned with Nestlé's overarching sustainability goals and can provide opportunities to help advance the sustainability journey of one of its leading categories, Nestlé Purina PetCare, in particular. This includes exploring low-carbon ingredients such as alternative proteins for pet food, ensuring sustainable sourcing within its value chain, and protecting the ocean ecosystem from which Purina sources fish by-products. Using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 14: Life Below Water as a guiding principle, the Ocean 14 Capital Fund I invested in entrepreneurs and businesses with big ideas around aquaculture, alternative proteins, reducing plastic waste pollution, protecting ecosystems and marine flora, and ending overfishing.
