Microentrepreneurs face limited access to training and financial resources in Chile. Impulso Chileno, a six-month training programme created by Fundación Luksic, relied on extensive research and data to create the necessary tools and training for more than 670 entrepreneurs to date. This data-driven approach also helped identify gender disparities in Chile's entrepreneurship sector and design Despega Mujer, a gendered approach to empower women entrepreneurs. "Diving deeper into the world of women's entrepreneurship reveals a tapestry woven with complexities beyond economic considerations. In specific contexts marked by sex corruption, power dominance, home abuse, limited decision-making autonomy, male monopoly, restricted freedom, and physical security risks, women entrepreneurs encounter unique challenges that demand careful exploration. These nuanced aspects of their experiences hold the key to a deeper understanding of the hurdles women face in business. I believe it's imperative for researchers to broaden their scope, extending beyond traditional economic factors. By doing so, we can not only enhance the relevance of our studies but also contribute meaningfully to the development of policies that bring positive change for women entrepreneurs. Let's push the boundaries of our research to unravel the intricacies of these challenges. Together, we can pave the way for impactful policy changes that empower and uplift women in the entrepreneurial landscape. #WomenInBusiness #ResearchImpact #GenderEquality"

😀 This International Women's Day, let's shine a light on a crucial issue highlighted in our recent research: Gender Bias in Entrepreneurship (joint work with Luca Pistilli, Franco Malerba, and Stefano Breschi) 🤔 Our study studies how gender bias affects the chances of entrepreneurs securing external venture capital financing. The findings are eye-opening: while objective measures like experience remain unaffected, gender bias significantly impacts social perceptions, especially when it comes to entrepreneurs who have faced failures in the past. 😑 Female entrepreneurs, our research found, are disproportionately affected, facing greater challenges in attracting external funds post-failure. However, there's a silver lining: the stigma diminishes for both novel and serial entrepreneurs who have been successful. This reveals a path forward—success stories can and do mitigate gender bias. 🙄 As we observe International Women's Day, it's crucial to acknowledge the barriers female entrepreneurs face and work collectively toward dismantling these obstacles. Let's celebrate and support the resilience and achievements of women in entrepreneurship, striving for a future where gender bias no longer hinders the incredible potential women bring to the business world. #InternationalWomensDay #GenderBiasInEntrepreneurship #EmpowerWomenEntrepreneurs #InternationalWomenDay #InternationalWomenDay2024

Empowering female #entrepreneurs, particularly in high-growth sectors, is bound to catalyse economic and social transformation. To address the substantial cost of marginalisation, targeted programs are essential. An example is #KIEP250Plus which encourages women-run/women-led SMEs to apply for technical assistance and performance-based grant funding. According to The World Bank, tackling gender-based performance gaps and overcoming the disproportionate barriers faced by women entrepreneurs are crucial steps toward unlocking their full economic potential. #womeninbusiness #women #entrepreneurship

Last month I had the privilege to attend a session held by the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs #AWE - a program by The U.S. Embassy Zimbabwe under the U.S. Department of State as an assistant under SHANA Media. Women are coming together to enhance their knowledge on how to launch and scale successful businesses and it’s just beautiful to watch and be a part of. My biggest takeaway was that one has to understand their market in order to be successful. With that on lock, ask yourself the following questions… - What is value and how do we create it? - Why are people willing to pay premium prices? - What makes your product/service special? These are some of the questions that when answered, allow you to take your brand to another level. #AWE #womenentrepreneur #women

💡 Very interesting read in Sifted about the role of governments in bridging the gender gap and supporting women entrepreneurs by Ana Barjasic, a European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA)(EIC) board member. Despite a general acceptance of their important role in driving innovation and growth, female entrepreneurs face many challenges. For example, only 11% of European venture funding last year went to women-led startups. While this was a huge improvement from 2022's pitiful 1%, industry experts such as Barjasic believe the gender funding gap demonstrates a market failure. With the power to introduce policies such as enhanced childcare support, Ana discusses how governments are well-placed to support women entrepreneurs and women-led businesses. In the article, she also shares how the EIC is setting an example of how it's done, dedicating 25% of funding to women-led startups in 2023 alone. 👀 Check out the full interview using the link in the comments below👇 💭 We'd love to hear your thoughts on this! What can governments and other organisations do to bridge the gender gap and support entrepreneurship? -- #metta #mettareads #genderfundinggap #entrepreneurship
