📢 The Integrity Council is pleased to share that Xpansiv has launched the trading of high-integrity CCP ® (Core Carbon Principles) labelled contracts at its CBL spot exchange. “We are delighted that Xpansiv has launched the first CCP-labelled standardized contracts,” said Amy Merrill, CEO, The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM). “The Core Carbon Principles (CCP®) label is an identifiable, consistent, global high integrity quality mark for #carboncredits. This ensures not only strong program governance but also integrity in the rules for how the credited project has been designed and implemented. Alongside Ozone Depleting Substances, the first CCP-Approved methodologies included Landfill Gas (LFG). LFG capture and utilisation play a vital role in combating the climate crisis and promoting a more sustainable future. 🌱 🔍What is LFG and why is it a problem? Landfills are a major source of methane, a potent greenhouse gas with a significantly higher warming potential than CO2, especially in the short term. As organic waste decomposes, it releases methane, accelerating global warming and impacting air quality, groundwater, and human health. The growing amount of global waste makes effective LFG management crucial. 💡How do CCP-Approved LFG methodologies work? The LFG methodologies that have been CCP-Approved, promote the capture and utilisation of methane. LFG capture systems collect this harmful gas from landfills and convert it into valuable resources like Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and Biofuels. This helps both reduce reliance on fossil fuels and cut methane emissions. CCP-labelled carbon credits issued will incentivise investment in LFG capture projects, accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy and a healthier planet. 🍀 Through our two-tick approach, CCP-Eligible programs can now issue CCP-labelled carbon credits under CCP-Approved methodologies, such as LFG.
