Over the past 7 years in my entrepreneurial journey I have crossed paths and collaborated with entrepreneurs in different industries, and I continue to. I have connected with founders all over the globe.
It's disappointing and shocking that to date, most entrepreneurs don't have a sense of urgency in exchanges unique to business. My service providers are mostly founders based in the township and are black founders. At first, I didn't want to admit that race does contribute on service delivery.
I believe in inclusion and so i try to rotate my service providers based on the need, skill and quotation. And ofcourse to give 'equal chance' which can tend to compromise me.
I also have different service providers of colour and I never experience any service delivery issues. I am almost guaranteed to experience a glitch with my black, South African peers. I am also mindful and aware that it doesn't stop with me.
A lot of entrepreneurs in my access, online & off line do experience major challenges. Last October, I experienced a glitch with a service provider, letting me down compromising my brand in the process with my client. And they just didn't have a sense of urgency nor showed compassion.
Just a few days ago, a service provider compromised my SLA, but luckily I was in good standing with my client and could save myself and my brand in the process. A client recently, was frustrated slowing me down on a project because their service provider was letting them down & showed no sense of urgency, whatsoever.
It's come to my attention that founders like myself would rather outsource and priotitise white businesses as they experience more ease on the business exchanges. I know i have experienced pleasant exchanges myself with a service providers who are not my race. What does this even mean for the status of service delivery with black founders and service level agreements?
I must highlight the exceptional exchanges I have had with black owned businesses. And nothing will take that away. We can do more!
I type this as a frustrated founder.
My post is not meant to harm or discriminate. Rather to increase awareness and attract solutions and shared experiences.
