⭐ Community Announcement ⭐ Everyone is Worthy of a life free from Violence. Worthy Australia is committed to breaking the Cycle of Domestic Violence, Social Injustice and Homelessness for Women and Children. Here at Hurst Scientific we proudly stand by everything Worthy Australia embodies and the work the wonderful Volunteers do. This is why we are a proud Sponsor of the Saving 16 event for 2023. Last years Sunsets and Survivors event was a sell out and raised an incredible amount of money which went towards the Safe Haven Program. Since inception Worthy Australia has produced 31 Safe Havens. That's 31 Women and 75 plus children. A little bit about the Worthy Safe Haven Program, Lack of financial independence is a key reason many women and children remain in domestic violence affected homes. Many women fleeing domestic violence relationships must leave in brief, opportunistic moments, with nothing but the clothes on their back. These women then find themselves in refuges or shelters with no money or means to provide for themselves or their children. How do you start again when you have nothing to your name? That's where Worthy Australia comes in. We turn empty houses into homes for women and children who are exiting domestic violence refuges or transitional housing. By driving donations in Perth’s local communities we source every single item needed to rebuild their lives with love and hope. We ensure the home is beautifully presented and well-equipped with everything from furniture, white goods, appliances, bedding, toys, down to toothbrushes and body wash. We let the families know that no matter their story, they are worthy of a dignified future.

What does it look like to create a documentary with impact? 🎥🙌https://lnkd.in/e9gg57R2 Our recent client project for researchers at the University of Surrey gained a reach of over 50,000 in three days. Plus, we engaged The British Psychological Society, NHS Employers, and press. If you’d like to know what the process of making that film looked like, I have published a video offering a look behind the scenes. It covers the process of producing that documentary from development and pre-production to shooting and even post-production. https://lnkd.in/e9gg57R2 #documentaryfilm #impactfulcommunication #nonprofitmarketing

⭐ The Uncharitable Movie looks amazing Jim Hayhurst! The stark double standard between how nonprofits vs for-profits are viewed is a topic that drives me mad. 😡 🔎 It's okay for for-profit's to fail but it's not okay for a #charity to ever fail. We celebrate #entrepreneurs who miss the mark yet when it's a nonprofit, we persecute their #leadership. 🔎 This is what drives #charities to paint a rosy picture of all their work - they must sweep failures under the rug or they will lose their funding. Nonprofits cannot open up about what has worked and what hasn't because any failure means lost funding. 🔎 Of course, there are some bad actors in the nonprofit space, but no more and I'm quite certain much less than in the for-profit space. We must enable everyone and every entity to learn from #failure so they can do even better work. This double-standard drives charities to mediocrity rather than to the brilliance they are capable of. This must change if we are to successfully combat the worlds most challenging problems. 🌍
Here's where you can watch "UnCharitable" in select theatres in the US (Sep 22) and Canada (Oct 22). Even better, your company, organization and collection of impact orgs can do a theatrical buyout. "Dinner and a movie" with your donors, board, fellow impact leaders, and community. Spread the word, buy tickets for friends, get the movement going. #uncharitablemovie #philanthropy #charities #nonprofits Uncharitable Movie

For #TrusteesWeek, here are five things I love about being a trustee for an arts organisation: 1. Getting up close Whether it’s live performances, exhibitions, archives or something else - being a trustee means I get a front row seat and hear about all the best things first. 2. Trying new stuff I’ve gained loads of experience of organisational strategy, budgeting and business planning (and much more besides). 3. Meeting people Shout out to the wise, kind and generous trustees and staff from different walks of life who I wouldn’t have met if I wasn’t on a Board. 4. Other perspectives Being a trustee has helped me see how organisations work from the ‘other side’ – which I can use in my day job too. 5. Making a difference It’s cheesy, I know. But if you want to feel all warm and fuzzy inside, you could do a lot worse than joining a Board. Finally, sending lots of love to Bishopsgate Institute (a library and archive sharing stories of everyday people) and Headlong Theatre (who make and tour plays like A View from the Bridge, pictured) – two remarkable charities that I’m lucky to support as a trustee.
