Had a great conversation with Brett Stapper about the origins of Tonic.ai and some of the idiosyncrasies of building a business that crosses categories. The most important things we did: -Move quickly, but iteratively. It’s hard to learn if you’re slow or if you change north stars too often. -Focus on the customer over definitions, i.e., synthetic data vs masked data. Keep in mind what they actually need, not just the words they use to describe it. -Be honest and direct with customers about what’s possible even when there’s a lot of hype. #startups #data #genai Full episode: https://lnkd.in/gTf7k-qv

Excited to finally announce BREVIAN's seed round! For the most critical questions, business users have historically been forced to either spend heaps of time manually searching for answers or rely on someone technical as a conduit to the data. Those days are long gone, as Brevian now puts the power of production-grade AI agents into the hands of every business team. Users can create agents to automate specific tasks, analyze specific data sources, and train these agents to improve over time. Brevian does all of this while leveraging security guardrails, a concept made popular by Jason Chan and Travis McPeak at Netflix (also both investors). Given their unmatched experience working with enterprises at the intersection of data, ML, and trust and safety, we at Felicis couldn't be more excited to partner with Vinay Wagh, Ram Swaminathan, and the Brevian team as they make secure and customizable agents more accessible. https://lnkd.in/g5tDXwru

❓ "How can we transform vast amounts of raw data into business-related decisions that can make a difference?" 📊 This was the question Maximilian Hahnenkamp and Felix Beissel pondered when they recognized a common problem faced by companies of various sizes: producing large amounts of #data without the #time or #tools to convert them into #insights for predicting market trends, streamlining operations, and delivering exceptional products and services to customers. 🚀 Thus, Scavenger AI was born, a startup we were delighted to welcome into batch VIII of our #acceleration program and which has now secured €1.1M in pre-seed #funding. Scavenger's software cleanses the #data, automatically analyses it statistically based on the user's questions, and presents the analysis in simple language, crucially, within #seconds. 🗣️ We caught up with Maximilian and Felix again to hear about the #journey that led them to create Scavenger and the #goals they aim to achieve. Within the domain of small and medium-sized businesses, there is a prevailing inclination to draw inspiration and guidance from established corporate models that have shown success. The OpenAI episode stands as a poignant reminder that the complexities of human interaction and alignment surpass the influence of any artificial, professionally crafted corporate framework. While organizational structures are vital as a foundation for success, it is crucial to acknowledge that long-term success is contingent on individuals prioritizing the success of all stakeholders. #smallbusiness #familybusiness #successionplanning #openai #humaninteraction #alignment #organizationalculture #stakeholders #businessadvisory https://lnkd.in/ebzKnfE9

If you've been a leader in a startup, you've likely seen your fair share of dirty data. Band-aids, workarounds, inconsistencies, unscalable, and generally no good, very bad, hard to reconcile data. It makes everything exponentially slower, unnecessarily complicated, and difficult. Time machine back to the earliest stage of your startup and think back to the first time the decision was made for a cheap, quick, or rapidly deployed solution. Then the next... Then the next... ...and so on until you're in a dirty data quagmire. It's so very tempting to think of immediate turnaround, fast movement, and easy data solutions early on, but don't hobble both knees before you can run.
