Snap elections from my pov seem like a lack of strength rather than a strategy to reaffirm your authority. How come instead of correcting strategic and course of action, you would rather to ask people if they still support you ? In times of harsh people of course would rather to close their eyes and expect things to pass by, a new govement doesn’t necessarily means new circumstances. #defeat

The world is such a mess, the national debts are super high, rates are too high to survive, France has lost its African colonies, which is causing the standard of living to fall, so much cash has been poured into Ukraine with no noticeable results, perhaps they both actually bailed before actualizing the results of this mess . I wonder if Biden is intentionally loosing so Trump is left thet the mess.

Their fate was decided by themselves and they already knew it’s time to go. Let the new leaders bring more peace and stability to the entire planet!

Technically not a snap election in the UK as parliament would have been dissolved automatically on 17 December 2024 in any case. Under the circumstances I think calling the election in July was a sensible course of action and both major party leaders acted in the best interests of the nation. In France Mr Macron has taken a stunning political gamble on the three years that remain of his second term in office. Much press coverage on this and just how it pans out will soon be known.

Apropos to nothing in this pic and caption, really, but this Ugly American has been revisiting the works of another who was very much. Of his time and ahead of it, ol’ Tom Paine: “Men who look upon themselves born to reign, and others to obey, soon grow insolent; selected from the rest of mankind their minds are early poisoned by importance; and the world they act in differs so materially from the world at large, that they have but little opportunity of knowing its true interests, and when they succeed to the government are frequently the most ignorant and unfit of any throughout the dominions.” Food for thought if nothing else this Independence Day extended weekend here in The States. One thing about the UK election is how it affects the UkraInian war (in the short term, it basically doesn't). The only pro-Russian party was ReformUK, and they did well but not spectacularly. What is more interesting is what happens if Trump wins. At that point I can imagine Keir Starmer (working with Meloni) being the leader of pro-Ukrainian forces in the West, particularly if the far right wins in France and Germany.

Now if only Trudeau could call a snap election.

Snap elections generally reflect a directionless, decaying government that has run out of ideas. This syndrome has afflicted parties of all different political colours and hues over a very long time, it's nothing new.

I think, both of them started a long game realizing the situation. Both of them have time, if not this time, they'll comeback within some years.

Ian Bremmer As the year of political hell unfolds, political risks, rather than impotent central banks, are set to be the biggest market drivers in the months ahead. https://themacrobutler.substack.com/p/apres-macron-le-deluge
