Innovation Forum insights – Leveraging technology for carbon accounting in agriculture. Peter Bunce, vice president and head of cotton and microbials at Indigo, talks with me about the momentum behind companies addressing scope 3 emissions, particularly in the agriculture sector. We discuss the importance of leveraging technology and partnerships to collect and analyse data efficiently, reducing the burden on farmers while ensuring accurate carbon accounting. Peter also highlights the potential of voluntary carbon markets to drive sustainable farming practices and warns against delaying progress on carbon reduction due to challenges in addressing biodiversity impacts.

Helping people and business thrive within the planetary boundaries / Ashridge accredited Executive Coach / Author
In my last post, I was referring to thoughts of my colleague Matthias Berninger about what it takes to leaders and society to dare to innovate. One conclusion: Leadership is at the heart of both, innovation and transformation. Let me today share a link to Jens Hartmann illustrating how that could look like...
In agriculture, taking an outcome-based approach is crucial. This means our strategies go further than traditional methods, focusing on creating comprehensive solutions that foster a sustainable future. Central to this is #regenerativeagriculture, which we underpin by key principles: 1. Consistently covering the soil to protect and nourish it. 2. Implementing diverse crop rotations to maintain soil health. 3. Minimising soil disturbance to uphold its structural integrity. 4. Optimising resources to ensure minimal impact and maximal yield. We recognise that we are in an era of active transition. Historically, agriculture's tools—#seeds & #traits, crop protection, and #digital technology—stood as separate entities. But today, the evolving demands of modern agriculture necessitate a unified, integrated approach. These tools, combined sensibly, can increase agricultural productivity, yield tangible economic value for farmers, and promote ecological benefits. Our Bayer | Crop Science methodology is future-centric and holistic to enhance resilience against unpredictable climatic variables. It also foresees opportunities for farmers, from new revenue streams, such as compensation for carbon sequestration, to compliance with evolving climate directives. Furthermore, the integration of #digital technology and #agtech in regenerative agriculture enables traceability in the food chain. It helps connect what is happening on the farm to consumers who are demanding and buying food with new expectations. The path ahead might be undefined in some respects, but with regenerative methods, the future looks promising and #TheFutureIsRegenerative. Trusted soil measurement is the key to scaled regenerative agriculture - much has changed in #agritech over the past years, not least the increased abilities to measure nutrients, carbon and soil health in the field. If scaled in a cost effective manner, these novel measurement technologies hold the key to regenerative agriculture adoption as covered in this report from my colleague Niall Mottram from Cambridge Consultants: https://lnkd.in/e_UAtzxg #regenerativeagriculture #soilhealth #capgeminiinvent
